Hi everyone, pure newbie to the boards and to hacking. I know most of the ropes to hack SMW, but I had a few questions. Sorry if its too much but these should be all I need help with for a while.

1. If I delete the old overworld, how exactly do I make a new one? Do I just use the 8x8 and 16x16s to create my own?
2. How exactly do I make the path light up? After you beat a level, the path goes from dark, or translucent, to light, and opaque. Don't know how to do that.
3. Are the main and midway entrance always the same X/Y coordiantes just on different screens?
4. FInally, is there a program that can hack Yoshi's Island? All I know of is the SMW: 1 hacker (LM) If there is, could you post a link please?

5. When I come out of a pipe on some levels, the bottom of the background is all glitched. How do I fix this?
6. How do you put custom music into the game?

Thanks for all the help guys, I've done everything, but I still have a problem with lighting the paths up - everything else I get =) could someone please post an idiots guide to making the paths/events? That even I could understand? =P thanks a lot in advance!

EDIT: Never mind, just discovered I'm not that much of an idiot - but one quick question - I did all the events, the paths appear fine, but how to I make the paths appear dark AT FIRST? Like, when you load up the game (original) you can see all the paths and levels, but the path is dark. How do I make the path dark? I can only make the levels dark, but not the path.

Great, I finally get it now, thanks everyone Oh, quick thing, if I wanted different graphics for my overworld, (like say SMB3 or something) would I do something with a save state of that ROM? Heard something about that earlier, but didn't quite get it.

EDIT: Never mind, I get that. I just downloaded the YI stuff for ExGFX workshop, but when I follow all the steps, and click on the yellow eggs, it says a whole speech, then it asks *Proceed Anyway?* I hit yes, and my graphics become all jarbled and messed up. What am I doing wrong??

Looks like I have all my problems solved at last - except one . . yes, its another problem. No surprises there!!

I downloaded a BACKGROUND from ExGFX workshop. Now I know how to do tilesets, but I don't know how to do backgrounds, since there is no Map16PageG.bin, but there are a LOT of other files (Map16FGG.bin, blahblahblah.tpl, etc.) How do I use them? Also, when I try to load a background from a different map to the one I'm currently on, it garbles up on me (example - castle levels) How do I fix this? Thanks =)

Thanks, I see what you mean but the BG still appears as garbage tiles. I must've have done something wrong. Also, I understood everything you said except the part about the sample level (10)

I just got EggVIne, and tried to load my ROM of YI into it to hack, but it said (caused a weird error, bad things will happen if you continue) or something like that. Anyone know the problem?

its not really the sprites I'm having a problem with - its the background. There are tilesets and there are BGs in ExGFX workshop - the BGs dont have Map16PageG.bin file, but they have other files, and I dont know what do to with them. I understand the steps above, but I get stuck on step 10. At the very end of it all, I can see my BG, but its still all garbled and messed up.

EDIT: Hmm, I don't think I quite get this. When I open my YI ROM in Hex Workshop, this is the first few lines I get:

00000000 | 78C2 09FB E230 A900 48AB 4848 2B9C 0042 9C16 40A9

Actually, thats my first line. The last, I'd say, 50 lines, are all FFFF FFFF FFFF FFFF. Is my ROM good or bad, or do I need more data?

DOUBLE EDIT: Forgot to mention earlier, another window that pops up when I load EggVine says *Abnormal Bank Number. Level may not load properly.*

But thats the problem - EV won't load. SHould I try to find a new copy of the ROM?

EDIT: Actually, I'll try what you said. Should I add the entry object FE in a hex editor to 04Data and 05Data?

Stupid TEST levels. When I go onto my overworld, and hit "Modify Level Tile Settings", I get a list of levels (right above events) that I can choose to use for that level tile on the map. It has all the normal levels, but it doesn't have the TEST levels. I am going to have about 110 levels in my game, so I'll need some of the TEST levels. What can I do so that I can use the TEST levels on my overworld? Hope someone understoof that LOL

I need a bit of help dhen downloading the BACKGROUNDS in ExGFX workshop. I have used tilesets from there before. (they are the ones with just three files) I downloaded YI BGs, and did the same thing with them I did with the tilesets, but there are about 3 more files, including Map16PageFGG.bin, and *bghere*. tpl. I also don't really know how to make the background once I download it. Any descriptive, yet easy-to-understand help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance

How exactly do I make a sample level to put my BG on? Is that just the TEST levels? Also, what do I do with all the extra files I get with my BG? Do I put them in ExGrpahics folder, or just in the same folder as my ROM?

EDIT:

I'd better ask this now, so I don't have to make a new thread. I was looking at Ice Man's, and a lot of other very good hacks - really like your Ice btw - and I see a lot of them with Yoshi's Island tilesets. Where exactly is everyone getting those? Theres only backgrounds in ExGFX workshop, no sprites or tilesets.
