I used to make Mario levels on paper. I had really wild imagination back then. One level was full of vines and lakes, and the other had tons of thwomps. That's all I remember. Ahh, good memories. I should get myself some grid paper and do it just like the old times. |

When I was new, I accidentally bumped an old thread, and got warned by Legion, I think. I made a spamastic thread in Craziness Domain, and that topic got locked and thrashed, and I got warned by Colleen. I think those two were the only newbie mistakes I made - I've been careful since then |

I wonder what the web would look like if a spider ate a fly injected with speed. A race track, maybe? |

I'm sure all of you already know that the game is rather difficult until you've pressed the red/green/yellow/blue switches, and then the game gets a bit easier. I just thought to myself: what happens if it was the OPPOSITE? For example, a level is easy, but when you press the switch, the level becomes hard. I'm visioning a level where you take the lift from one side of the level to the other. Without the switch, it's an easy ride, but with the switch you'd have to dodge many blocks on the way. Another way is that without the switch, you could hit that ? block to get a mushroom/flower/star/feather/whatever, but with the switch on it actually prevents you from hitting that ? block (it would have to be a red/blue switch block). "But what if the player does not press the switch? Then what? Huh? HUH?!" is probably what you're wondering. Simply put, you could just do it two ways: Make the switch place optional, so the players would get a "nasty" surprise in the upcoming levels after hitting the switch, OR make the switch place a "regular" level - you have to clear it before going on the next. The former would probably discourage players from hitting future switch places, but the latter is too linear. You COULD make a secondary exit in the switch place that is very hard to get to get around the switch and continue on, but what's the fun in that? Just thought of something some of you may want to use. Or you could just entirely ignore this topic. |

100 levels, 95 levels, 0 levels, whatever. I'd play this if it is as good as it sounds. |

I have a couple of questions. I was able to follow Cody's steps just fine, but... for some reason: In the 8x8 tile editor window, the ExGFX are successfully extracted, so that's no problem. However, when I try to extract it on the 16x16 tile map window, it does not show up, even after I've inserted it in with F3. It just shows something completely different than I want. Also, the grahpics are very messed up for things such as Walk-Through Dirt, Solid Left Edge, and so on, and I have no idea how to correct that. I also saw screenshots of ExGFX for the 16x16 map tile editor window was very neat and clean, but when I extracted the ExGFX into the 16x16 map tile editor, it was a mess. Do I have to manually "clean" it up, or did I miss something? Thanks for any info! |

Here's a couple of tips: Write your post in Word 98, XP or ME, and then correct the spelling mistakes underlined with red swigglys, and correct the grammar mistakes underlined with green swigglys. THEN post it on the boards. Be sure to brush up on your spelling/grammar, and Don't Capitalize Every Word Because It's Just Dumb And Annoying. |
