I like how whenever people talk about fights they get in online, 80%+ of the time they say they won. Internet nerds -> Uber warriors... hahaha.

That said, I haven't been in a fight since 5th grade or so. And I won that one. D:< After that... I got pushed around a little by a guy in 8th grade... but it wasn't fair, he was so big.

1) We didn't ban based off of 1 or 2 threads but off a general census of what they were posting.
2) We're not being "overzealous" - we want to have fun too, and if the morons don;t annoy you, that's fine, but they annoy many people.
3) MARGINAL rise in intelligence? I've already seen post quality go up drastically (for the most part) in the last week.

Heh. I just get the feeling that it's more of a "ban unpopular members" than a "ban stupid members" thing. I probably don't keep track that well, but it certainly sees like that. Case in point: Kario. Comes back, posts a thread... it was a lame thread, but whatever... 100 retarded posts later, he gets banned. Now, there are plenty of threads of equal / less value that slide by... but Kario gets it. Oh well. I haven't noticed an increased intelligence level, mostly because I think you'd have to ban a hell of a lot more people to get that... there are plenty of people here that are around the "banned 9" level in general post quality.

But then again, I probably am really good at filtering out annoying people / posts. And I meant marginal in the economic sense... utility gained from raising the intelligence level by banning a member is offset by utility loss from the loss of board activity...

Anyways, here's a fun picture:

Interesting poll wording. I wonder what the results would've been if it had asked, "Should Kario be allowed to post here?"

Interesting challenge, but my problem is that I don't especially see why certain people deserve banning, so... if I were to make up a list of people comparable to The Nine, it would be a... long list of people whose posts I felt generally didn't contribute much. I didn't understand what was wrong with Tinzee or Kario or a lot of the other people, though... maybe just for lack of my seeing their definatively stupid moments, or something.

Only thing that's really obvious at the moment is that Eyebarb is posting a bunch of worthless crap. His stupidity, I understood.

I don't think anyone really knows exactly, but I remember in the past, they used to blame autism on "cold mothers". Kinda cruel.

The examples Toxic posted are 2-6 weeks old. Definately before the "second chance", hence irrelevant as evidence nowadays. Besides, they really weren't so terrible.

The Kario thread isn't in the Display Case any more, for better or worse, but a lot of people were baiting him. And he didn't even respond that poorly, he just called the people who were being assholes assholes, iirc. And then he was banned.

And, of course, the "it's just the internet" argument is kinda shitty... not necessarily cause I disagree, but because that logic is always selectively applied. You flame Kario, it's okay. But if I were to flame certain people here, I'm pretty damn sure I would be told to knock it off, if I don't get outright banned.

I don't know who exactly fell behind the "my rights.." excuse, but obviously admins will attempt to define principles and act on them. If Yiffy Kitten's justification was, "yea, I hate that fucker Kario, and that's why he's banned", then... well, okay. But I'll wait for him (or whoever actually banned Kario) to actually say that.

Put it this way - things would have gotten a lot worse before they got better.

So it's Kario's fault that he inspires other people to be assholes? Ouch.

Maybe. I'm inclined to mention something about due process here, but I guess that's irrelevant.

Gumtoy: Then call it an extension of the original ban, not a newly-deserved one. And typically, when there's due process, once you've served your original sentence, you can't just be punished again for the same things. Double jeopardy and all.

You misunderstand the concept gravely.

And I don't feel like copying and pasting your name and, rather than spell it wrong while being close, I took the safe bet. My name is easy enough for an 8 year-old to remember how to spell

Well, what I said operated on the premise that Kario hadn't really done anything new worth banning him over. Colleen said it "would've gotten worse", and that triggered the due process comment... banning someone for something they might do in the future is... not due process.

Hint: My name is a palindrome. Keep that in mind, and it's not that hard.

[Edit]

And I'm not an idiot, I realize that admins don't necessarily have to abide by due process or free speech or whatever, but usually they like to maintain the image that they do. And if the admins here didn't, this discussion would've been over a while ago, since they wouldn't feel that they have to justify themselves.

Hey, let's not forget the facts here:

Kario was banned for a week. He served his time. Came back, made a few posts, and was panned again. The point is that the "he would have been banned anyways" argument is kinda shitty, because why wasn't he just permabanned in the first place, then? The obvious due process analogy is that a prisoner serves his time, gets released, does something stupid - but not illegal - and then "they" decide that he'd just end up breaking the law anyways and put him back in jail. Roughly.

And anyone who's planning on saying, "well, we don't need due process here"... kindly stab yourself in the face or something. I know that. The admins are allowed to be arbitrary, but it's better when they can admit to be arbitrary. "Week's up, guess we should unban him. Oh, wait, never mind, he sucks."
