Alright, I've uploadeed version 0.71. Check the webpage again for link.

This has a few small fixes, the ability to view the object list in a sperate window, and better handling of areas that aren't actually usable.

Small update - if you downloaded 0.71 already, then redownload it. Fixed a little crash bug.

That's looking pretty good. I hope things go smoothly.

As for the graphics, the number of games that have graphics that can even compete with Yoshi's Island is pretty low, and most have incompatable styles with YI. I think graphics changes probably will have to be drawn by hand rather than imported with rips. At least YI's style is pretty easy to mimic; a few felt-tipped markers (especially black), a box of good colored pencils (including normal and pastels), and a scanner would make it pretty easy. Of course, Photoshop has the tools to immitate that too.

Anyway, a bit of advice to YI hackers who don't want to get into art - experiment with the header. It might take a while, but you can get a lot of cool effects.

I believe FuSoYa's Lunar Compress will let you do the graphics stuff.

ZSNES lets you do that. By default, it's keys 1 through 6.

Indeed it would be. I've only got part of the information to make that happen though. Some guys are working on it.

Note: I don't know if this was mentioned already, becasue I didn't have enough time to read the whole Thread at the yet.
Yep, I'm aware of that one, but no one has mentioned it in here I think. I'm going to leave it alone for a while becouse that code has been a frequent pain in the side and I want to make sure it's working before I break it again.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but...

I think that EV (EggVine) needs a better "Add stuff" box:
1) Only one type of things (Objects, Special objects, Sprites) should be shown at a time with three handy buttons at the bottom to choose which one to view.
2) It should only show the object name in the box and show the descriptions in a tooltip.
3) There should be an option to show the objects in categories, like "Grounds", "Slopes", "Pipes", "Background", "Platforms", "Unknown" and so on.

If you add these three things, EV would be much easier to use and the time it takes to make a level would be reduced.

Also, I noticed a bug. When you resize the objects by grabbing onto the right/bottom edges and moving, you can't make it go outside the level, right? However, if you grab the bottom right corner and moves the mouse, you are able to make it go outside the level, which can cause... ...bad results.

That's all for now.
Jesper just suggested an option to filter the list, which I've implemented just now. Since the code behind that list is a bit more sturdy now, it was pretty easy to add an option to choose between objects, special objects, and sprites (check boxes).

The other two options would require more information to be put into the data files, and there are already features lying dormant becouse their data file entries aren't completed. It'll probably have to wait.

I never coded anything to stop you from resizing an object out of the level, so it's odd that it would stop at all, let alone only on some but not diagonal .

For decompression, there's always FuSoYa's Lunar Compress.

One of the board's tallented asm hackers might bless us with an exgfx option, though it's likely not to be the practically limitless graphics addition that LM provides.

Any pics of your graphics work outside of YI?

I don't know much about the inner workings of Windows or VB runtime files, so I can't answer your question.

Your error likely has more information than that included, you should post the full message and hope someone more knowlagable than me comes along.

New version, v0.73.

This version adds more bug fixes and a set of features to make the object list easier to manage. All the data files have been renamed to .dat instead of .txt in a hope that people will notice the files that are not data but rather there for their own use.

Also, Jesper changed the webpage. It's very lagom. (Yes, I learned a new word ).

There are a lot of objects in the game that can be make the level not run. There are no known corruption bugs at the moment, but it's still hard to figure out what YI is choking on.

The suggestions on catagorizing objects have been taken care of with the latest release. Tileset problems suck, but I can't do anything about it right now.

I've not been able to reproduce z order bugs recently. Can you give me a set of instructions to do that so I can fix it?

Midway entrances can be properly set up, but EggVine isn't going to do it yet.

Whoah, missed that.

Copy levellist.dat and rename the copy levellist.txt. That'll fix it.

I'll have a working zip shortly.

EDIT: Zip updated. That should work better.

Thanks.

I sent him some sample code to show off a filter and how he'd go about creating one, and he managed to consider several aspects of it, implement it and improve it in a period of time 13 seconds shy of an hour. I love this guy.

Please consider adding an "Always On Top" option/button to the object list window. This way when EggVine is maximized, you don't have to alt-tab between EggVine and the separate object list window.

I also have another gripe about the object list, this time about the filter. The filter is case sensitive! As dumb of a gripe as it seems, shyguy and Shyguy give different results, and filters for hex indexes like 1ce won't turn up anything, while 1CE gives the correct sprite.
Good points, both of those, and thanks for pointing out the other error. Since load by offset is nearly worthless already, I won't re-upload for the fix; but I will fix it.

At the moment, the program crashes if it doesn't have an object that can be selected. Thus, clearing everything leaves behind an object. Just create a new object and delete the one that was left over before, and it'll be good as new.

When I make it possible to select multiple objects, I'll change that.

Yes, I'll be making a starting point and midpoint editor. I don't know how long it'll take me to get to it though.

Cpubasic is right, it is a sprite. I doubt that graphic is compressed, but I could be wrong. I'll go try using sniff and see if I find anything.

Alright, thanks again. You might want to check the copy with EggVine. I have the tilesets partly listed there. One's just an example number and the rest are rather incomplete, though.
