| yes, layouts stay blocked even if someone changes them.... would be kinda silly to unblock every time it's changed wouldn't it ?? whenever you get bored just go to the page that lists everyone you have blocked open their profiles in a new tab... and then unblock them at the bottom of their profile page if you so desire..... I wasn't really able to do alot this time, I had some stuff going on in my personal life, I plan to make alot more contributions next time around though... but even though I didn't write any code, I was actively involved in the development itself through discussion with jesper..... haha actually got in trouble at work for talking to him, hahahah there's not a whole lot in my board that I have to add to this one to get it up to speed..... then I can start using this codebase too  |

as far as the RSS Feeds.... they will change drastically.... the RSS Feeds should be used as an alternitive method of subscription besides e-mails.... they should not allow you to be reading forums and threads in your news reader instead of online..... based simply on the fact, most people will use them for notification only, and it will be a useless waste of bandwidth and resources. Also, the forum feed in it's current state doesn't work quite right.... once a thread appears in your news reader it doesn't get "bumped" if the feed moves it to the top, so we will have to put a unique identifier on each thread like thread (# of posts) or something like that or maybe Thread Name Posts / Views that would always be unique.... but yeah..... they are going to be revamped into more of a reporting system though, so they can be utelized as an alternative to email subscriptions.... without adding too much bandwidth and CPU use to the site overall..... people shouldn't be reading threads in their news programs..... simple....

I think an e-mail subscription should be more than adequate.... but Jesper did point out some people may not have access to e-mail, and of course there are "live bookmarks" but I think the RSS feeds should serve ONLY as a notification system and not provide any ACTUAL content. providing actual posts just puts extra load on the server for no reason

becuase most news readers check the RSS Feeds every X Minutes.... so someone leaves their news reader running when they go to work... it does 16 thread loads for no fucking reason..... therefore, it should be reduced to a simple reporting system... if you wanna read a thread, open your fucking browser and go to it.... if you want a notification that a thread has been replied to, and are too fucking stupid to go get a free e-mail account, fine I'll give that to you in RSS but nothing more..... I think the idea of RSS is really stupid personally... but am humoring Jesper and you other people with your stuipd bookmark bull shit it already puts a big NEW Icon next to the thread and we will have e-mail subscriptions in the next beta.... that's not fucking good enough for you ? you have to have fucking RSS ? fine, but it's going to be used as a REPORTING tool, not as a goddamn alterative for you to read fucking threads...

And we definitely need to make Searching so it doesn't uber rape..... I played around with my search.php for a bit.... doing stuff like putting time limits on search and whatnot..... so like by default a search only pulls the last 2 months of post data... but if you NEED to you can increase it to like 6 months or something..... and then Full Mods and up can do a full DB Search or something like that

the RSS Feeds are likely to be the only feature that will get hotfixed along the way, or before we do an actual new release..... |
the content spit out by the RSS feeds is going to be greatly reduced and used more as a reporting system, for you people that are too retarted to just use a friggin e-mail and the shiny NEW Icons the board puts everywhere.....

Because people will use the full content feeds always, and not use the reporting feeds.... then they will end up loading the thread anyway.... "You pretty much just confirmed that you're having a problem with the way most people use RSS" My problem with RSS is that it's not designed for heavily updated content from MULTIPLE Sources like threads.... if I had my Druthers like I said there would be NO RSS Feeds... they are not necessary.... No other forum any of these people go to have RSS Feeds.... so they should be happy with Reporting RSS Feeds since they are too stupid to look at NEW Icons or receive e-mails.... I do NOT want to provide content in RSS Feeds for threads..... simple.... it's an online message board..... go online and read the fucking threads..... it's not an online system for dumping posts to your computer for no reason whatsoever because thread.php does that already. If you want me to tell you when to load thread.php fine... but I'm not sending thread.php to your computer..... simple.....
