I went ahead and selected the path chooses the walker. I did not take it in the sense of fate vs. freewill though, but in the context of one of my favorite poems. To me, yes a walker "chooses" the path in the literal sense, but something about that path calls to the walker. Whether it is which side it's on, the scenery, uphill/downhill...the path chooses the walker in that it speaks to something in the walker's heart or mind, perhaps even soul. Without literally speaking, it says, "Hey that guy right there looks like he'd enjoy this one, come on down here." At least, in my opinion that's how it works.

I'm curious, do you have to stay in a dorm on campus? If so, the first place you might want to check would be their limitations. I know at my university here, we can only have a 10 gallon tank with fish, and that's it. If you're off campus then that's awesome and I say go for whatever! For now though, I'll go with the Gecko simply because of this great news! I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance!

Oh man, sorry it took so long to respond, but I've been a little busy. Yes I'm aware that I am probably the one and only Bushist on this board, but frankly, I don't care. I'm not attacking you, so don't even think about attacking me.

I base this on experience and knowledge about the military that I doubt any single one of you have. My father served, my grandfather served, my great grandfather's served, and my boyfriend is currently serving. I've grown up in the military life since the day I was born, living in Europe, living in the United States, and experiencing every branch of the military. While Clinton was President, my father's pay went down quite a bit. He shut down all missile defense facilities. He decreased funding so our planes, tanks, armour, and weapons are now out of date and falling apart. Literally. I know you probably remember the stories of our fighter jets falling apart in midair and killing soldiers. If you didn't, I guess you can thank the American media for that because it was all over military news.

Secondly, I said nothing about who won the debate or who said the truth most often or anything, just to clarify. Personally, I really don't like either of them all that much, but I'm taking the less of the two evils. I just don't like Kerry, he gives me a bad feeling and I don't trust people who don't make a firm stand on an issue. Plus, I'm conservative in my views towards abortion so that affects my voting as well. I also HIGHLY disagree with Kerry's health care plan because personally, I don't believe in the government controlling everything, and having high taxes so some people who are too lazy to get a job and get themselves off welfare and quit having kids can have health care on my money. Sorry, but that's how I feel.

I think it's amusing that you think Kerry uses facts to back up what he says and is somehow not repetitive. The only things I heard Kerry talk about were skewed statistics and his resume of friends, to include the late Christopher Reeves, RIP. And yes, those statistics are extremely skewed, and presented in a way to misinform the public. Mostly because people in this country typically do not have brains large enough to foster self-created thought. Instead, they listen to the media and people who twist the truth around and follow them like a cultist. This is the reason they promise things that'll never happen too, I guess. They know people will actually fall for it.

But anyway, I've rambled long enough and since I'm sure y'all are tired of hearing the "one and only Bushist" and her opinions, because lord knows only Democrats are right, I'll sign off.

Interesting site, I appreciate the information.

Granted, Kerry's program is not entirely run by the government, but there will be important decisions made by the government. For example, the government paying for 75% of "catastrophic" medical bills. They will, of course, determine what these are and then where will the money come from? That's what I'm curious about, and if you have any information on that, I would love to see it. The same for how he plans on providing health care for millions more people. I just want to see where this funding comes from, and how it could possibly not affect our taxes.

Of course, supply and demand does influence the military. But then again, when something like 9/11 happens, the entire country is in an uproar because we were underfunded, understaffed, and underprepared. Our number of troops is too low to fight safely, and there are few ways of increasing that amount. Yes, there are some areas where money can be removed from the military, but there are others that should never be touched. Military benefits are an example of those. Housing that is too small and technically illegal, schools that are falling apart, improper material, and even pay. A person who first enlists in the military gets paid an extremely minimal pay, and if they have a family, it's a guarantee that that family will live on food stamps. The housing is absolutely ridiculous. When stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada, one of the most important bases to the Air Force for reasons that can't be said, our house was absolutely trashy. It was a three bedroom home, 900 sq. ft. total with asbestace (excuse the spelling, I'm unsure of it) underneath the floor tiles, lead based paint, and an ant infestation. The first two things are illegal. The military cannot afford to build new housing because their priority is the safety of the men and women who serve, the family comes next. My point is simply that we should maintain a healthy level of protection at all times, regardless of the "peaceable" time. It's a mindset like that that leaves a country open for attack. If you are not ready and prepared at any time, when the time does come we won't be ready. Like now for example. Now that we need troops and supplies, we have a lack of them.

Secondly, I did not mean planes fell apart in a battle setting. They were simply practicing. It happened once or twice at Nellis, when pilots would go up to check the planes, keep their feet wet in the business of flying, and the plane would crash out in the desert killing the pilot. You probably didn't hear about it because at that time no one really paid much attention to the military. Pre-9/11 was unconcerned, but it did matter to military news which is why I'm aware of it.

And on a side note, if this is Clinton's military, why is not also Clinton's economy? It follows the same path. Each president inherits the previous president's military, economy, problems, and successes. So I find it interesting that people are more than willing to give Clinton credit for the military, but give him none for the state of our economy.

Here are some facts about Clinton, though, just to throw them out there. The Clinton stretched our military forces thin. Between 1960 and 1991, the United States Army conducted 10 "operational events." In the past eight years, the Army has conducted 26 operational events --- 2 1/2 times that number in 1/3 the time span. Since the end of the Gulf War, our military has shrunk by 40 percent. Army divisions have dropped from 18 to 10. The Army has reduced its ranks by more than 630,000 soldiers and civilians and closed over 700 installations at home and overseas. Since 1990, the Air Force has shrunk from 36 fighter wings (active and reserve) to 20. The Air Force has downsized by nearly 40 percent while simultaneously experiencing a fourfold increase in operational commitments. The armed services suffered a severe ammunition shortfall going into the Kosovo engagement. According to the Service Chiefs, the FY99 ammunition shortfall for the Marine Corps was $193 million. For the Army in FY00, it was a shocking $3.5 billion. The average age of the B-52H bombersnow in use in the Balkansis 37 years old. The average age of the Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAV) is 26 years old. Over 90 percent of the spending that Clinton sought to cut using his line-item veto authority was for military programs. If you want some more, just let me know. I have no problem offering it.

So I went to see this movie on Saturday night, The Grudge. You should all see it, by the way, it's fun. Anyway, I was surprised, as ever, to see children as young as 6 months in the theater. Granted, this happens pretty much all the time, but for me, it's becoming somewhat of an annoyance. Not only is my movie going experienced tarnished by the various spurts of crying, but there are children laughing and talking during important parts of the films. And to make matters worse, the parents never want to miss the movie, so do they take the children from the room and console them? Of course not! That would be convenient. Instead, they leave the child miserable in a room that's incredibly loud, dark with bright flashes, and full of people they don't know. How wonderful for them. I was just wondering if it's only me, or do other people find this as annoying as I do? Just curious...And another thing, to make it a little more dynamic, do you think exposing children to this type of environment at such a young age impacts their psyche, and in what way?

Apologies if this has been done before....

As annoying as it may be, at least I know I'm not alone in this tragedy! I just wish there could be some sort of inforcement for preventing at least babies. I mean come on, who has successfully taken a baby to a movie and not had it cry. Get a babysitter, that's what they're there for.

That reading of the subtitles had to be horrible, I can't even imagine, and I definitely don't like kids who turn around and stare. For some reason, they always remind me of The Omen boy. *shudders* Scary.

As long as the clapping is deserved, it's kinda fun. I mean, since plays and theatrical productions aren't very widely popular, I guess movies replaced that as a form of entertainment so people have to involve themselves someway.

I definitely agree that children under 3 should not be allowed in a theater. I mean come on, what 2 year old understands the plot of ~any~ movie, let alone one PG-13 or higher. they might enjoy "pretty pictures" but let's face it, The Grudge sure as heck didn't have any "pretty picutres."

Maybe I'm just incapable of using that site listed, but I have a question for you Rydain. Assuming there is a situation like the one you suggested, where the fetus dies during the final trimester, and they are unable to induce labor, how do they get the fetus out in order to perform the intact D&E? Perhaps they use a technique I haven't heard of, but it seems to me that if they are able to get the fetus out through that method, then a C-section wouldn't be necessary. After all, isn't abortion killing the fetus while it's alive and not removing an already deceased fetus? Methinks they are two different things. If I'm mistaken though, definitely correct me because I don't really know a lot about it.

On the issue of abortion...I think the argument is basically a useless one. The two sides aren't even arguing the same issue. Pro-abortionists are arguing the right to chose. Anti-abortionists are arguing over when a soul enters the human body. That is, if you believe in the soul. Pro-life, pro-choice are both propagandous (I have no idea if that's even a word) terms. There will never be an agreement until both sides decide to talk about the same issue.

As for this Bush attack...oh man. Where to begin?

"I mentioned that the country is being ran by capitalism, but namely, I was referring to the business motivation between Bush and the bin Ladens."

Aside from conspiracy theories, I'd love to see some proof of this accusation. What business motivation is there between Bush and Bin Laden exactly? If anything, there would be more of a business motive between Bush and Saddam regarding oil. But proof, missy, if you please.

"Michael Moore's material, by definition, is propaganda, I admit that. But it's not lies or hype. It's not propaganda that's trying convince you of a misinformed view."

The word propaganda as defined by The Merriam-Webster Dictionary 11th edition: the spreading of ideas or information to further or damage a cause; also: ideas or allegations spread for such a purpose.

"Kerry wants to bring allies to the table and they've already shown support with this proposition. Having stronger allies than Poland (no offense Polish guys) which would help to take the load off our already weak troops. "

Everyone wants to bring allies to our side. Every single president does, every military advisor does, and every citizen does. People would be stupid to push away help. The problem is not allies being pushed away, the problem is they don't agree with us for one reason or another. Not to go into that issue, I'm just bringing up the main point: Just because Kerry is president doesn't mean every country will magically want to be our friend. People have always hated America, they hate America now, and they will probably always hate America. It's the way the cookie crumbles.

As for the rest, I'll address it later. I have to go class now and widen my mind, unlike some of the people here who can't seem to think outside of their own little box of prejudice.

Alrighty, so I stayed up till 2:30 trying to figure out who our president would be, but since I have a midterm in about 30 minutes, I had to give it up. And I wake up this morning to find...the same three states undecided.

Now...these damn provisional ballots. From what I understand, they're basically ballots from people who weren't registered to vote when they got to the polls. Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but isn't that a little bit unfair to count those votes? If they're not registered, why the hell does their ballot matter? The rest of us got registered or mailed ballots in on time, what makes them so different? Maybe I haven't heard the real use of these things, but so far I'm saying poo on provisional.

Wow I'm....amazed. I think it's so absurd to hold so much hatred for one man. I mean...what did he do to you exactly? What reason do you have for hating him with such deep conviction? Everyone has things they dislike about a president, because no person can please everyone. I'm just wondering what reasons you have for such hatred.

As for that Nazi thing...that makes me sick to think anyone could compare another human being to Hitler. Is Bush responsible for wiping out 4 million of a single race? No. Don't even use logical fallicies to prove a point because all they prove is that you're ignorant.

I'm sorry, when did we drop tons of uranium on a country? Please oh please enlightn me as to when we opened up atomic warfare like that. If you're refering to STRATEGIC bombings, let me tell you a little something about that. As many civilians as possible are cleared from the area. Only military instillations or places where enemy forces reside are targeted. If things happen, it's because of a mistake or people didn't leave. And what "massive numbers of Muslims" are you talking about exactly? The extremists who AREN'T muslim? The people who love violence which goes against everything the muslim religion holds dear? I don't think so.

I'd appreciate it if you, MathOnNapkins in particular, would refrain from generalizing about people you know nothing about, about issues you obviously don't comprehend, with absolutely nothing to back up your statements.

I just hate stuff like this. I may not like a certain president, but I'm not going to go around accusing him of attrocities like that. What did Bush do to deserve such treatment? I mean honestly. And then to not only flame about Bush, but to generalize about people who might agree with him....that's taking it way too far. I don't criticize anyone for voting how they vote. It's our right as Americans to vote how we want to vote regardless. The point is not who made the "right or wrong" choice, because there is no such thing. Everyone feels differently about everything, and to "lose faith" in America for who is president is ridiculous. People vote for their candidates for a reason, and we should all respect that, whether you like them or not. I have gained faith in my country because more young people registered to vote this year than ever before. To me, that's an enormous achievement in of itself. I don't see why we can't have a civil discussion about these issues without making rash and hateful statements.

Just my opinion...

Btw...about the gun issue....I rather like my second amendment right to bear arms personally...

"Though you seem to have forgot that when Bush found out about the first Tower being attacked (somebody stepped in the classroom and wispered it in his ear,... and he had the TV on with a News channel on that was doing LIVE coverage), he sat there and kept reading childeren stories. Then, the second Tower was attacked, and when Bush found out about that one, he continued to read childeren stories! WTF is with that?"

Wow, I don't know where you pulled that from except maybe...a dark nether region, but that absolutely did not happen. I think it's hilarious how many contradicting stories people tell about where Bush was during 9/11. If I remember correctly, he was said to be 1) At his ranch enjoying free time; 2) Playing golf enjoying freetime; 3) Reading to children. Interesting how one man can be three different places at once! Now, the real story is that as soon as the towers were hit, Bush was evacuated, put in Air Force One, and they flew around for a while before picking a secure location to land. Want to know how I know this? Because my father has some "inside connections" I can't really talk about.

And I'm curious Atma X, maybe I'm reading that post the wrong way, but are you insinuating that Bush is hiding things in bills passing through Congress? Last time I checked, the job of writing bills belonged to the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Isn't that how it works? I know you all remember those old songs, "I'm just a bill" and whatnot. A bill is written and submitted in the House. It's voted on. It goes to the Senate. It's voted on. It's passed to the President. It's passed or vetoed. It goes to the courts to check constitutionality. No where in there does it say "President writes a bill and fills it full of lies and tricks!"

Yeah...

And let's not even begin to discuss how dirty this campaign was from both sides. Bush lied about Kerry, Kerry lied about Bush, they gave each other horrible names and as I recall, Kerry even attacked Cheney and Bush's kids. Not so nice. I don't agree with that method at all, and I'm not pinning blame on one candidate over the other, but I'm sorry hun. Just because Bush gave him the name "Flip Flopper" did not make him lose the election. He lost because the American people voted. Sorry, get over it.

Anyway, onto much more fun subjects like next election's candidates! I think Hillary is definitely a huge contender for the Democratic side. For Repubs though...who knows! What do y'all think about Ahnold being allowed to run? Should it be allowed?

Sorry I took so long to respond Colleen, yes I know he was indeed reading to children when the event happened. I was simply making the point that many stories were concocted, so I wouldn't be surprised if others were.

I think a woman for president would be awesome, as long as it's not...well. We'll see I guess. From what I hear, though, '08 is looking very much like Hillary Clinton and Julianno (forgive me if I spelled that wrong). Interesting, no?

Made perfect sense Legion. I think it also has to with the fact that they're always looking for better qualified people to serve as well. You know, the higher the ASVAB, the more recruiters you get

As for the draft thing, let me just join in the club and say THERE WILL BE NO DRAFT. =D Honestly, I think they whole thing is over-hyped, over discussed, and under validated. Oh well, I guess that's how most things go.

Legion, don't worry, some of us got it =D I guess some people just don't read most of your posts. I was just a little late on the uptake I guess... weekends away from home make my posts awfully late.

I have a question really quickly because I'm really too lazy and too busy to look up all the information I'd need to inform myself bout this, so does anyone know the details about White Water? Not sure if that's two words or one. From what I understand, that's the main reason why people don't like Hillary. Besides the fact that she tried to steal stuff from the White House...
