When you litigate self-restraint, the repercussions can be devastating. I think that sums up what's been going on over here. Seriously, look at all of the parallels between the US and Rome on its last legs, it's kind of suprising. |

Am I the only one that thought this thread had something to do with homosexuals and STD's by the title...? And personally I've noticed that guys speed a lot in their teenage years. A lot more bragging about it when they did when they get older. I doubt there isn't a correlation. |

3-high taskbar FTW! Does anyone know a style-xp-like program that isn't a resource whore? (edited by Zer0wned on 09-14-05 05:49 PM) |

I have this myspace account, so I can keep in touch/find friends and family. People post bulletins, it's normal... But there's this one from a football player I kinda knew... It hurts to say that this is the average person to come out (AS IN GRADUATE) from my old high school. As follows: "What Skool..Im To Kool!!! HAHAHHAA!! im So board...And Im likE studien for my next class..i cant seem to stay awake....so myspace helps me stay awake...aint it sad...well have you guys ever read 100 years of solitude?....if you have can you give me some advise about this book its sounds cool but, what do you noe of it?....well Hit Me bAck Foo's!!" Now, I'm going to point out 9 errors. In the title alone. 5 words, 9 errors. I won't even touch the rest of this mess. 1, 2 - mispelled/capitalized "school". 3, 4 - two periods on the elipse, and I'll assume that it was a rhetorical question, so no points for lack of question mark. No space after the elipse. 5 - No apostrophe on "I'm" 6, 7 - capitalized "to", used "to" instead of "too" 8, 9 - Misuse of capitals, misspelled "cool" If this were some 12 year old aoler, I wouldn't care... much. This is an 18 or 19 year old high school graduate (the football team was horrible, btw, so it wasn't like he was a star player getting a boost from the teachers). Anyone have similar/worse encounters? Oh, and feel free to point out the irony in the title, I figured I'd save the fun for someone else. |

I'm just pointing out what I could find. I'm usually not a grammar nazi, but this one just hurt to read T_T. (I'll admit my grammar is far from perfect, figured I should mention that =P) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Well, considering smart people are usually insulted and ridiculed, being an idiot might actually be the cool thing. Oh well, when I'm making 300% of what he's making because I'm a nerd, I'll know it was worth being uncool. @racoon master: I understood what you said... so no. I probably should have said typical in there somewhere. |

This kinda reminds me of when I see bar graphs, where they fail to point out that the chart has been cropped. So that something that's 4% higher looks more like 20%. Media isn't about spread of information, propaganda, ratings, blah blah blah. |

Originally posted by ThayerOriginally posted by Zer0wned Bah, details... That was pretty much an {insert rant about media corruption here} kind of thing. I motioned an insert because those rants are usually half bullshit anyway, and I kinda stopped watching TV like a few months ago, didn't watch much before then either. So I'm far from a ranting authority on the matter. "Media isn't about spread of information, propaganda, ratings, blah blah blah." is basically what I hear when people rant to me about it. I hope that made the purpose of the second paragraph a little more clear. EDIT: stupid html... (edited by Zer0wned on 09-15-05 12:18 AM) |

Originally posted by Thayer Well, free and free but mandatory are a little different. Some that are against mandatory education might say that many people will end up in jobs where a post-reading, writing, and arithmetic education (middle/high school) would be better replaced by more specialized training while the mind is still in a more maluable, youthful stage. As well as that the money not spent on those less willing and not benefitting from it could be better spent, class sizes reduced to further benefit for those that are more willing. I'd agree with that, if I didn't know that many of those not destined for the secondary education will probably turn to crime before they ever start any kind of vocational training or apprenticing. I think of high school as more of a daycare for teenagers than a place to learn sometimes. |

That reminds me of this one time I was asking a Hmong girl out when I was 15, she turned me down because she was engaged to someone she'd never met O_o. First time I got a laugh out of being rejected. I was completely oblivious to the fact that the consensual sex age differred from state to state, I always thought it was 18 for men and women. Now who you could legally marry (like how directly related to you they could be) was something I heard that could be different (like 1st cousin, and maybe siblings, but that might just be a rumor, but I'm pretty sure about the 1st cousin one). But 18 sounds good to me, with a grace period for the relationships involving 17 and 18 year olds, so it's not like if a guy is having sexual relations with his 17 year old girlfriend, he can't get slapped with a statutory rape suit. No one give me that "if it's consensual it's not statutory rape" crap, either, the definition of statutory rape states nothing of consent, just sexual relations. |

Are you encouraging pedophiles? I used to know one, he convinced pre and barely pubescent girls to mess around with him, he said they liked it. Consenting or not, liked it or not, that can have serious negative repercussions in the future. Persuasion, tricking, guilting, or even scare tactics can be passed off as "consent" if done correctly. I know how at least this one works because I got to know him and got inside his head. |
I've also known a few girls, as well as heard/read of accounts of girls that were (give or take) consenting, the ones that embraced it had a tendancy to become useless nymphomaniacs, and the ones that bottled and avoided it oftentimes had unhealthy sexual relationships in the future, or were just plain disturbed. I should probably note that I'm referring to roughly 13 and under. 14-17 is really more just a way to cut down on teen parents that haven't finished school and can't provide for the potential offspring yet. Maturity=/=Ability to nurture, at least not in today's society. If this were like 80 years ago I'd say differently. It's not written anywhere that I know of, but you don't get full rights until you're 21, and you get the majority of them when you're 18. Once you can accept that, things tend to make more sense, and go a little more smoothly for everyone.

This is a 6 meg file hosted there. As for the second thing, try going to 'run' in the start menu, and run msconfig, look in either startup or services, then uncheck what looks like that program.

I came to learn rom hacking and programming, and I stayed because it's an active community that has a surprisingly above-average intellect in its userbase. It's nice to finally hear valid opposing arguments/debates, hell, even losing a few feels good because I learn something in the process. |
