Since the comment about smoking seems to have been seriously misinterpreted, I see it as him complaining that people can still smoke outside. Not that they can't inside or whatever. As for leaving... Good luck with that. Unless you have some worthwhile skills or something, most first-world places probably won't take you, especially since I don't think it's possible to try to claim "refugee" status. |

Originally posted by Thayer Well, free and free but mandatory are a little different. Some that are against mandatory education might say that many people will end up in jobs where a post-reading, writing, and arithmetic education (middle/high school) would be better replaced by more specialized training while the mind is still in a more maluable, youthful stage. As well as that the money not spent on those less willing and not benefitting from it could be better spent, class sizes reduced to further benefit for those that are more willing. I'd agree with that, if I didn't know that many of those not destined for the secondary education will probably turn to crime before they ever start any kind of vocational training or apprenticing. I think of high school as more of a daycare for teenagers than a place to learn sometimes. |

Honestly, there are a lot of people who probably wouldn't go if it wasn't mandatory, and then we'd end up even worse for most cases, a lot more people who didn't even bother to get the simple education available to them and can't advance further in life either.

First thing first, it isn't free. Its far from free, I had to pay like $200 for just my first semester of high school. Then again, my town sucks. Augusta, Kansas, is the only town in the largest county in Kansas that doesn't support the Encore program, something I want to get involved in. Which is more or less "school at your own pace". So yeah, fuck mandatory schooling and bad schools. (edited by Dracoon on 09-16-05 05:06 PM) |

It is free. You're just participating in a program that is not free, that's a choice. Otherwise, there is a free education available to you. Other options include the ability to obtain a GED which at least lets you not be in school and work full time, but at least certifies you do have the knowledge as though you passed high school.

Personally, I wouldn't mind moving to Israel, but not because I hate America, but just because I'd like to live there. Well, perhaps I'd rather visit first, but I can't really see myself disliking it.

If you hate America, don't go to Israel. Israel is way to close to the U.S. (edited by Wurl 4.0 on 09-19-05 12:28 AM) |

I said "not because I hate America". I wanted to make it clear that my reasons for going to another country were not because I hated the US. A lot of people say they want to leave because they say they hate the US. That isn't what I meant. I'm sorry for the confusion. |

You do know what the larger problem is? It's the Protestants. They claim salvation, but are using subtle (or non-subtle as in Hitler) means to control the masses. I specifically count them as being terrible. Catholics don't interfrere with the lives of people like me. Worst of all are White Protestant Smokers. A very common set of attributes around here. Going by that, I'm probably best of in central or south Africa. Few there can afford tobacco, not many are white, and there's a wide variety of religions. I'm also sick of this "get a car" and "get a job" stuff. That is not my lifestyle! I don't need that. I've grown to exist in the virtual world. Acmlm is home. I hate the W.P.S. |

Acmlm's is home, when you post about every other day? Interesting. If you're going to start tossing about religious insults, this won't be open much longer. |
