There may be some spriters here, but, however, I think spriting/comics would have too low feedback to deserve an own forum. Acmlm's is mostly for ROM Hackers, although the majority posts in the off topic forums. Just my point of view |

A word censor is useless. You can bypass it easily, just an example on phpBBs "shit" becomes to "s***". If you simply put BBcode in, like "s[b What about a ghost option ? You might want to be insivible (whyever), so it simply supresses the own entry on online user's list - should be easy enough to do. E-Mail verification is very nice - hehe, even though a spammer might register fast using freemail providers - it is alwaysd easier to delete a user than for the spammer to set up a new account (edited by Surlent on 10-14-04 01:02 PM) |

Hmmm ... checkboxes for mods and higher - reminds me of the Mod Control Panel in phpBBs ... pretty neat stuff, like for quick closing of entire pages with threads - like when a spammer attempted to bump half a dozen of older threads What about a neat pop-up on new PM reception, of course switchable on or off in the profile? It should not be too hard to code that using an JavaScript alert box with an entry: "You got # new PM(s)" |

Firefox asks me to install QuickTime, is that a new feature of the board or just the result of a user using something with Apple's Quick Time in his/her layout ? | |||

Uh, I made a single attempt in text hacking in an FF3j ROM, I planned to do a German translation via hex editor for that - though it was impossible since I lacked any skills in ASM 6502 or any other assembly language. I would have to expand an NES ROM and in another step to add more message boxes for translation, since German requires more text than English. I'm too lazy Hacking a game using Lunar Magic is no pure ROM hacking, sure. It is fairly easy and powerful, but you don't go through all hex values or change certain values in the ASM source code of the actual game (edited by Surlent on 10-17-04 03:54 AM) |

I ran Windows ME for three years ... I got 2 viruses in that time, an it were two harmless ones when I still used IE Since Firebird 0.7 was released, I switched to that neat and small browser; now I'm running my neat Firefox 1.0 PR using a German language pack from 0.9.3 (though the official version in German is not released yet ) and I'm having major security plus more comfort in browsing. Plus no more tracking cookies like in IE I use Windows XP Home with SP2 with all additional updates plus AntiVir (I set it to auto-update at 6:00 AM every day), Sygate Personal Firewall and perform a weekly scan with my anti-virus in less than ten minutes for all my four partitions, and also once per week I run Spybot Search & Destroy, searching for updates first. This is not too hard to use a personal firewall and a virus scanner parallel. Many firewalls have major problems since they can be shut down from a remote computer trying to hack into it, but combined with an anti-virus using an active "Virus Guard", using also your brain to check what pages to visit and what to open and what not - this already prevents nearly any damage from the net. And I have Auto Updates enabled. Despite I'm on ISDN only, when coming to Windows Update, that's the only time I give Internet Explorer temporary powers to connect through Sygate in order to search for new updates if I want to check it automatically (edited by Surlent on 10-18-04 09:22 AM) (edited by Surlent on 10-18-04 09:23 AM) |

Check your router's manual about "port forwarding". Even if you configured the router's internal hardware firewall to bypass some applications to connect to the internet; they require certain ports which might be not opened. ZSNES for example uses port 7845 by default when it's coming to Netplay. So go into the messengers' options, write down the ports and open the ports inside your router. The router's user interface can either be accessed on the device itself or likely using a webbrowser usually with a "link" to the router. |

Reminds me slightly about "Deception Point", although it was a meteorite and it didn't crash into a house of someone (I read the book so I won't say anything more about that and what is true and what not. No spoiling. Get it, lend it, whatever. Dan Brown writes nice books ) This is just that rare chance to get hit, like to win millions of Dollars playing in a lottery. I read, you have a higher chance to get hit by a lightning bolt than breaking the jackpot |

The mad thing is, in near future there will be applications which will require SP2 to run normally due to some updated system files or other stuff *shudders* I'm one of the people having no problem at all, but in two weeks it will be one months on that new machine and I will begin to backup my most important data (putting setup.exe files from programs, folders including music) on a rewriteable DVD ... just in case, it will mess up some day |

I also had no problem at all. This is no big deal, since I installed SP2 right off a fresh XP installation from a CD offline. Then only the critical updates via WindowesUpdate came following As for SP2: If it messes up the comp, the only way to stay somehow sure, is to get SP1 and all relevant security patches except SP2 itself. Rely on a good personal firewall and an antivirus with an actvie guardian watching the pages and files you open. Also you should pay attention what to download and open anyway. And hold your anti-virus and Windows up to date, avoid IE and Outlook (Express) if possible, and the major security holes are closed without the need of SP2 |

Nice work so far. The ability to block layouts is a good idea for us small-band users if certain CSS and/or other layout types are not working (server offline) or just damn slow due to large image and file sizes What about adding a small 'MSN account' entry, since a large part of users use MSN also ? You could put it into your profile, yes, but on the other hand it is just nicer to have it integrated into the board layout itself ... |

My old computer had 128 MBs of SD-RAM, that one here has 512 MB of DDR-RAM and I hardly ever used more than the half of it. I like programs using very low amounts of RAM. A Firefox with several tabs doesn't take ore than 40 to 60 MBs of RAM after a longer session (only when I opened 277 tabs in one window once, I noticed a "slight" slow-down |

I might consider to uninstall the CTC extension, since the Tabbrowser Extensions include that already (edited by Surlent on 10-28-04 10:48 AM) |

The crappiest translation I ever read, was from the German version in FF VII. Even in some cases English parts were left in the message boxes, also like too straight translations of stuff like equipment. Some things, translated to German directly, simply are very weird. When you even have the English structure in some German sentences or the story lost the atmosphere in some places, that sucks |

I didn't hack (if you can use the term "hacking" by using an editor with kick-ass GUI here ) too long, but renewed my hack twice after I downloaded LM in July 2002. The last shot came in 2003 with my first attempts to use background ExGFX correctly. Since I didn't know I easily could import level pallettes into LM, I tried to recolour everything by hand I don't have screens ready, but my old hack still is up. Five levels only and way too hard. Weird poster - it is like these stupid spots in our national cinemas against software piracy (a man copies dozens of CDs while his girlfriends waits for him. Finally she asks: "You have one choice: Either you come to bed or I'll call police and you will go to jail !") It's more the older people leading the younger children what is a far better education for that If the mother is in a hurry, having her child at her hand, every time rushes when the traffic lights shows "red", I won't be wondering if the child learns it the wrong way and really only to cross street when it's "green" |
