This collection of movies depicts someone finishing Majora's Mask in six game days. That is, after doing minimal requirements in the very beginning (and some glitching for $$$), they went back in time and beat the game during a single 3-day period. They started from the part where you talk to the mask salesman and get the Song of Healing and did everything from then on out. As you may guess, they didn't get all the masks, but they did beat the game with quite a bit of time to spare. Basically, they completed tasks in an optimal order instead of beating each area in sequence, ran everywhere as fast as possible using moves like the Goron roll, and obviously practiced an assload to be able to get through everything quickly with minimal screwups. It's quite nifty to watch. I just downloaded them all, and I've been working my way through them. If you search the Speed Runs category on archive.org, you'll find other quick videos as well. I'm going to check out the ~30-minute Silent Hill runthrough next. Here's another movie site I found a while ago. It's in Japanese, but there's enough English for you to find your way around somewhat. As someone who horribly miserably stunk at Devil May Cry, I am fascinated by their videos showing all S-ranks on Dante Must Die mode (which you can download here). The Yaricom page has a nice runthrough of Silent Hill 4 on One Weapon Mode. There used to be a spiffy video walkthrough site at stuckgamer.com, but it seems to be dead. |

The only one that really seems 'amazing' to me of the ones you posted is of Majora's Mask, as it's the only one of them that I've played That's still quite fast though My best time for that game would have to be at least 48 hours (in real life) The only other sites I know of for those movies are Arc's Superplay Temple, and Tool-assisted console game movies. Quite a few of those there are pretty impressive, even if you haven't seen the game before. They are definitely quite neat to watch. At least I find them to be |

The NES Superplay I've known about for far too long...and I remember going to a site for DMC for Dante Must Die! Mode beat really fast...course then it didn't start with zero items either...but it wasn't 'cheating' either.

I forgot to mention that GameFAQs has a mostly complete Majora's Mask 3-day challenge FAQ based on the video sequence. If you don't want to download the movies (and I can't blame you...even on broadband, it takes a while), it gives you an idea of how Dragorn played through the game. I've only seen one assisted emulator speed run (that famous SMB3 video), but I've been curious to watch others because it's interesting to see the absolute fastest path through a game (or close to it). |

I usually go to Speed Demos Archive. It's run by the same person who manages the Speed Run section at archive.org. I also go to Bisqwit's place sometimes.

*installs a Bittorrent client* *tries to download an AVI from Bisqwit's* *watches download speed slow to an utter crawl* GAAAAAAAH! Why can't these be more popular? Well, if anyone wants the Addams Family (NES) speed run...I'm going to leave the client up at least overnight. My computer stays up 24-7 and we have tons of bandwidth to spare. Wow...Acmlm has some videos on that site, too. I saw the Tetris one when he posted it on here a while ago, but I never knew about any of the others. |

Yeah I watched the Dragon Warrior video after he made it. I tried to help him in some parts of it but PK was more helpful and if I remember right he still has not perfected the game. It would only get 20 seconds or so faster if it did. Yeah some of these amaze me. I am going to watch the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Video, My girlfriend thought she was going fast through that game by beating it in 6 hours. It can be done in more like 2:09 e_e.

Ok! My own personal speed record I'm proud of is beating Prince of Persia (GB) in 28 minutes meaning 32 minutes left. |

I still have the 47-minute Zelda II run sitting around here somewhere actually. I should actually get the replacement TV tuner, then I can send it of various places. |

If you wish to be scared for life, check out this page: Metroid Prime Speed Run Just read some of the titles for the videos: "Best time: 1:04" "Best 100%: 1:36" remember, this is Metroid Prime we're talking. Insane. Planetquake.com/sda, nice assortment of FPS speedruns. I myself can beat Super Metroid in about 50 minutes, not so good compared to others such as Ultima2417(some numbers like that)'s 43 minute run. Zelda II in 47 minutes? Seriously, wtf? Whoops, I should clarify that that was starting via New Game + (IE all spells, both thrusts, levels at 8 across the board).

The only speedrun I'm doing would be too big to ever upload. (Tales of Symphonia.) But I've downloaded some runs, and OMG. |

Damn. That Majora's Mask one sounds like the most interesting, but I don't know if I have the space for that. I've heard about the assisted SMB3 one, and I'd be interested in seeing that. I'm sure it's on some of the sites people linked, but... I'm lazy. It would be awesome if someone linked straight to it. =D |

I'd be willing to check that run out, Emptyeye. As for any other runs... um. I can get a good time on SMB but definitely not close to any legit/non-legit run. |

The onyl thing I think I could do that would even qualify as a speed run would be Megaman Legends, which I blew through in three hours on Easy Mode (start with speed boots and Buster MAX part). I don't think that's credible, though. It's not too hard a game without easy mode, so a speedrun wouldn't be very impressive with it... |

I've been on Bisqwit's site since November (oddly enough, he even registered here a month before ), seeing the 8 minute SMB2 run inspired me to do some of my own: - Tetris in 4:06 - fastest time to 999999, but I recently found an even better way so I might improve it later - Monopoly in 0:35 (0:56 with the last turn) - how to abuse luck to get anyone bankrupt in 2 turns - Dragon Warrior in 19:31 - that old RPG is really short when you take out the leveling part and random fights - The Krion Conquest in 16:31 (not published yet) - Hard Megaman clone that now looks easy, while the character learned how to climb on walls I have quite a few more I haven't submitted (or finished yet), mostly test runs or messing around with different games to find a good one to make a run of ... The fun thing with those non-legit runs is that they really push the game to its limits and often show godly gameplay or unusual tricks (or glitches), or (like with luck manipilation) things that could never happen normally (edited by Acmlm on 02-16-05 10:10 PM) |

Thanks to Bob Whoops, I finally saw the end of Deadly Towers. I'd read the text in the ROM ages ago, but I'd never seen the ever so lovely picture of Prince Myer and the king. Far from the badass you'd expect, Myer looks like the bastard spawn of Charlie Brown and the Wal-Mart smiley face. What, did he get through such a difficult game by making the enemies laugh their asses off and run away? Yeah, I know it was made in 1986, but still...sheesh. And from what I recall, the cover art version of Myer looked like Conan the Barbarian. Talk about a disconnect... Acmlm - I'll be interested to see the Krion Conquest video. I rented that game years ago thinking it wasn't going to be too bad (I did beat Mega Man 2 and 3, after all), and I don't think I even got past the second level. Bleh. I always wanted to see what the rest of it was like. Also, how exactly does Dragon Warrior's battle action outcome randomization work? Does it use elapsed time as a seed or something like that? |

Krion Conquest was always a game I wanted to check out... it looked good in the previews I saw and then I just never saw it at the video store. I'll check my CD o' roms later and give it a go. I liked the Rygar run because it REALLY played havoc with the game engine; including the warp to the last level. It was still a good game though. (Hell, the first wave of Tecmo titles was great and I could see a speed run being done for Solomon's Key.) ...Aw wait. OK, Mighty Bomb Jack then. |

The .fcm for my Krion Conquest run is still available on the page I linked to (while a .avi of it isn't), so all you need is the ROM and their modified version of FCEU and you can watch it The game itself really isn't that great though, Megaman pretty much had everything better, and the ending is really crappy for how insanely hard it normally is to get there, but the run still has its fun parts since I go through the whole game fast without ever dying or unnecessarily getting hit The randomization in Dragon Warrior depends entirely on the timing (for battle encounters too), so I just had to find the shortest one that gave me what I wanted ... like to always get excellent hits, always succeed with Hurt and Sleep against the Dragonlord (it's normally a 1/16 chance), keep it asleep the whole time ... and of course, to get only the fights I need, like all the Metal Slimes at the start, the 2 Goldmen, and the few times I die by purpose |

One of my favorites was one with Megaman being beaten in about 30+ minutes. I'm sure it was entirely fake though, seriously. It just seems almost impossible to "not get hit" once until that player reaches like the 8th level, then finallly get's hit like once. And the timing and everything just seems, seriously perfected. Either it's fake, or someone has no life. I'll post a video if I can find it, it's been some time. (edited by Xeogred on 02-19-05 01:03 PM) |
