*Sigh* Can't they wait for the DS to be released in Sweden before working on an emulator?

It's already is... sorta.

*waves his DS and SM64DS which he got directly from Bergsala*

Finally, I get something for being a member at the offical "Nintendo club".

(althought you can no longer get it from them, and the offical release date is 11 march...)

It was on their site for awhile ago, but well. It was rather expensive and I think it's cheaper to buy it seperatly when it comes out.

I wasn't advocating pirating DS games once an emulator comes out, but let's be honest; I think GBA emulation was possible after the first 20 ROM dumps or so. We'll hit 2,000 dumps this year. The effect of early emulation isn't exactly that bad; besides, we still need to see what the DS requirements will be. Nobody will upgrade their PC just to use an emulator.

Don't be pissed off at people who create the editor, especially when you have people already on the homebrew wagon pumping this out. After all, if they can make a 3D textured demo already, imagine what they can do, say, in two months! And if the games are encrypted and unable to be decrypted, don't worry about it. Until they crack that, no illegal emulation will be going on. This is all just homebrew stuff.

I don't see why you're all throwing a fit over this

The DS requirement is solely based on GPU. If the DS has as strong graphics chip, then full scale emulation to the scale of GBA is going to be while.

I just wonder how large is the effects of emulation there is in the industry? Anyone can pick up a console but to know what it takes to run the console on your computer? Probably a minority...

Then, the ARM architure is pretty known. I bet the emulation wouldn't be done as fast if they did use a fairly exotic architure. So they just reverse-engineer the DS and goes from current ARM spefications, it isn't really that hard when you have the knowledge and time.

Yeah, but last I checked we have one dump. Now maybe that means there's only one dumper available in the world at the moment and it was just a dry run, but I think people have confirmed there is data in the First Hunt rom. (Not like the "Sonic Demo" rom with a bunch of garbage.)

There are those who surely do it just to show off, but there also those who are constantly bringing new findings related to just about every existing system; such people are the ones who make communities progress, because most of them do what they do because they enjoy the system they research on. The DS barely came out; no one has yet had the time to enjoy it as much as other consoles, such as the GB/A/C. Therefore, I must conclude this person is just looking for fame, and will most likely have his project fail since he has no other reason for coding the emulator.

One thing you can't deny is that without attention from other people, 95% of the community would be elsewhere.

Geez, wanting attention is natural. There is nothing wrong with searching moderation amount of attention.

It's annoying when it's very obvious thought...

And actually it makes a diffrence in the emulation community as whole, there us alot of data about DS already. Intrersting stuff to read.

that's probably why 95% of whatever "community" you're talking about probably really really sucks at romhacking. If you're just in it for attention, i wouldn't expect anything less.

you can like attention and be good at something, but generally attention whores suck a lot of dick.

Did you know that 73,81% of all statistics are fake and/or made on spot?

Although i'm leaning more towards 60%.:p

Well, the quality around here HAS kinda drifted over to a few paticular people.

But in all seriousness, I'm pretty sure that ASMing the ever-loving fuck out of Super Zelda 25 or whatever, is done entirely out of goodwill and charity, and not an attempt to get more e-penis points than the other guy at all.

"Hey, check this out! I gave Yoshi nunchucks!"
"Nevermind that, I just added the BFG9000 into Metroid!"
And so on. It's all a big game of one-upmanship. Not that I criticise this, as I take part in it myself, but I do not deny it.

No. There are lots of other ways of getting someone's attention. Real programmers do what they do because they enjoy it, not because they wanna boost their ego.

If they did it for enjoyment only, and no attention whatsoever, there would be no releases.

I'll stop derailing this topic for now, lest things get nasty.

Sure, there are people who do it just for attention, but not everyone does. I hack because making Mario pee on a bush and get blown up is fun.
