Does the drive appear in the BIOS and are all IDE channels set to auto?

Is the IDE cable even plugged in the right way? A constantly-on light usually means it's in upside-down.

What brand is it? I have a very nice Creative 52x drive that died on me shortly after I got it...first, it wouldn't read any discs (it would shuffle around a bit and then spit the disc out), then soon after, the computer wouldn't recognize it at all. The light was a constant yellow-orange at this point (which is weird, because it's only supposed to be either red or green, depending on whether it's in "turbo" mode or not). It worked for a short time after moving it into a different computer, though... If everything checks out OK, BIOS- and cable-wise, the drive's probably gone bye-bye.
