Originally posted by Jedi AnyaECHT! ECHT! ECHT! WRONG ANSWER Well, perhaps it ISN'T used in the anime, but it most certainly is in the manga. When Ranma's mother comes to visit, Female Ranma refers to herself as Ranko, because because of something that happened as a child, Ranma would be killed if he "didn't grow up to be a strong man." Or something to that effect. It's been several months since I read it. |

Kyouji wins the round. Genma, Ranma's father, made an oath with Ranma's mother, Nodoka, that he would bring Ranma back a man among men after a training trip. It was the only way that Ranma's mother would allow Ranma to leave (since he was only six at the time). Both signed the oath (Ranma himself did because he barely knew what he was doing, he figured he was just finger-painting) and both would die by seppeku if they failed. Reason that Ranma started pushing the Ranko name was because of the fact that he had no clue about the seppeku stuff until Nodoka came calling after 10 years, thanks to Genma telling him right after she got there. Ranma wanted to meet his mother until he found out otherwise and the only way he was really able to see his mother was as his female self. Scary thing is the female self and the mother look rather identical (hint in manga). The manga coming to terms with that whole fiasco is a good read, to say the very least. I have seen the manga for sale around here, I maybe should start to buy and read them. And no, the anime hadn't arrived here. The only Anime around here is still Pokemon, Sailor moon and recently Cardcaptor sakura. |

(Admittedly, I read Bob and George, but it's funny all the time and not just once in a while.) |

I think Dragonball is Manga only, I hadn't seen any DVD's or it being sent on TV. The manga is only good when Goku is a kid, due to being little funny... when the comic tries to be serious. *yawn* I'm not much for thoose very serious comics either. |

Gah, off the boards already. Figures. Around here, Dragonball is common in TV and manga. No TV or DVDs of it comes as a bit of a shock, actually. |

Originally posted by Yomiko Never read the manga. I know where they sell it, but I've never picked it up. From what you just said, that describes the very last eposide of Ranma...or at least from what I've been told. It was the last ep of season seven that I had watched about four weeks ago, and the name "Ranko" wasn't used. It was a different name. |

As said before in another post in this thread, I thought Hiryuu made it up. The name was never used in that ep, since it was another name that Ranma used to cover up who he was. |

Do an image search for "Ranko" on google. I doubt that Hiryuu added it there. |

Don't worry, I gave up on that SB...thanks. I can see when you have 34 posts, that you don't have time to post. Shampoo's english voice is very annoying to me, and I couldn't find myself to like the character. |

Actually, Jesp, you're not that far off. I could push 10 easily in your position (the amount you're back currently). |
