Ever since, well, my mom had a small wares and such binge on this computer which was later given to me fully when they got a new one, it slows down to a crawl when running at 100% for a length of time(IE playing games or other CPU intensive things). This never happens on any other computer I use. Another problem is that when I leave it alone for lengths of time without entering sleep mode or hibernating, something called helpservices(abreviated but I can't remember it) takes up every bit of CPU it can and I have to restart. It's a system thing so I can't kill it no matter what I do within my knowledge. I know that it shouldn't happen though, because I hear of people leaving computers on for days without things like that happening. I would really appreciate any hints other then reformating that could help rid me of this problem once and for all, because I've tried ridding the comp of all spyware with like 3 or 4 programs, and I'm not low enough on hard drive space to cause problems I don't think, I have like 7 gigs left. I do usually have only like 36% RAM free, is that the problem maybe? I'll try most anything that doesn't involve reformatting, if there's no other choice I'll gather up alot of CDRs or DVDRs and backup and do so, but I would prefer not doing that.

When it's at 100% that means all your CPU power is being used. If it wants to do something else, it has to wait because it's completely busy, so things slow down. You could try googling the program's name, but if there was a lot of spyware on it before you're best off formatting it. You can just back up whatever onto CD-RWs first.

Sounds like you've got something that shouldn't be running right. If it's locking your system out, then odds are you might have something on your comp that you really shouldn't have.

Whatever the filename is, do a google for it and see if it's a bogus file or not. Annoyances.org would probably have something on it. Also, be sure to run spyware killing software [sounds like you did but Ad-Aware SE and most updated file if you haven't] and anti-virus [if you don't have a firewall, get one, and if you don't have anti-virus then you should go to HouseCall and try scanning]. Since you're not giving us much info to go on...that's about all I can guess. If it's an HP, that's the only thing I've ever hear that's remotely close to a system that uses 'help services' or whatever.

...is it system idle process? Becuse that one usually take up the CPU that isn't used, and it's normal. I think it's used so the CPU can be used again faster when it's needed.

I read today that CPU's are made to handle 100% processing, so it's not so much of a problem... Football Manager 2005 uses a lot of processing power so I'm usually at 100% when playing that.

I fixed the helpsvc thing, but I still have that problem where my computer slows down when running at
around 99% which happens when I play games and such. Other computers don't do that (as I said
allready), so there's something wrong here, but I don't know what to do, where to ask, or anything.

some process in the task manager has to tell you why your computer runs at 99%. Otherwise, something in your windows configuration is now messed up...

If it's just that the game is using that much CPU power, then like I said, that will slow things down. Otherwise check Task Manager to see what programs are using the most (click the 'CPU' header to sort them by that). Ignore 'System Idle Prrocess', this just shows how much is not being used and really shouldn't be there at all. (That is, unless it has a PID other than zero, in which case it's probably a virus.)

I found out that it's not just ones that take like 99, even around 50, it will every so often go from what it was at to a crawl, I'd make a guess and say the computer slows down all the way to 3 frames per second for about half a minute. So, it isn't what is using all the CPU, it's the random slow downs when anything uses the cpu(at high percentages atleast.)The way it acts does not happen on any other computer, even older ones!

EDIT: *looks at layout* Okay, I'm going to make or get made a temporary basic right side picture layout that has no bugs before tomorrow, till I can get this one fixed perfectly. It'll also give me the chance to try another design anyhow!

Are the slow downs related to the writing of files to your hard drive? Say, download like a 1MB file and it slows down for a short period of time? If so, there could be a misconfiguration on your hard drive.

No, it doesn't happen then, it happens when running things that take up plenty of CPU like 50 or above. Thanks for replying though, atleast someone is paying a little bit of attention. Read my posts in the thread to find out what my problem actually is, it happens with anything, nothing related to hard drive writing.

I've actually had that sort of thing happen too; it would slow down when CPU usage was only at like 65%. I figure it's probably just Windows being buggy and lagging for some reason, or something waiting for some device to catch up. (I really doubt it's the HD, 7200 RPM it's frickin fast!) A lot of the time page file usage is especially high too, so that probably means there's not a lot of RAM left. It could be a heat problem, even; some CPUs will slow themselves down if they start to overheat. (It's not actually built into the CPU, mostly a feature of the BIOS or motherboard.) AFAIK the System Properties actually reports a lower CPU speed when this happens. Not all systems do this though, some just reboot or shut down when they reach a certain temperature. (Mine waited until the IDE cables were just starting to melt... I didn't think anything of it until the BIOS screen came up, since I had WinME. )
