Well maybe it's pronounced something like "Heart Eighth Note Exclamation Point Question Mark", or "Heart *musical sound* Exclamation Point Question Mark". I actually never put any thought into it. A quick fun fact is that Geno's real name is different in Japan. Here's a comparision, as taken from TMK.

So in Japan his real name is actually pill zigzag zigzag tv like thingy double arrow thingy.

Well...first off, that looks more like a Greek "theta" symbol than a pill. And that's probably a double zigzag instead of two separate single zigzags because if that were the case they would be farther apart. The "TV-like thingy" doesn't look like a TV...if anything it looks like some sort of memory cartridge. And the "double arrow thingy" appears to be a diamond with angle brackets above and below it. (edit: This also indicates that "[theta][double zigzag][memory cartridge][vertically angle-bracketed diamond]" translates from Japanese to English as "<3 o/

It's supposed to be unpronouncable.

So he used the name Geno.

So I call him that.

In the context of the game, he could make a noise that humans (etc.) couldn't. The text representation was likely meant just to show it was a completely alien name (I know those are human symbols, yeah).

Actually, those strange symbols do not translate to anything. Nintendo decided to remove the funny letters because they only appear in one sentence in the game.

Could very well be a four-letter swear with non-standard censoring.

Course then saying their name is a curse word is about the same as naming someone 'mud'.

I think he'd just lie and say his name really was Geno then.

Pear's idea sounds about right, but it woulda been cool if they'd left it the way it was in the Japanese version. They probably didn't even realize what those symbols were used for when they made the English font, so they just replaced them.

Maybe it's pronounced with sounds people are unable to make because he's a star, after all. It could even be pronounced djhgfsioudgfatrbwanswytrevweurhgwoenrwjrnvwkjrh for all we know.

It may be that you all just think to much of it. They probably wanted it to look strange, so put it there as symbols. And then, it is a foreign, alien langauge, and we wouldn't know what those symbols would mean. Since it is text, for all we know it could be 4 seperate sounds, or just one.

A swear word with heart sounds really nice.

You know, I think the translators just didn't took over thoose symbols for some reason. And just used some other random ones that wasn't letters but still used.

If anything, people should try the orginal translation. And even then...

And to be honest, Ziff is right... people just try to hard figuring it out.
