I'm having some technical difficulties running The Sims on my comp. Keep in mind I didn't exactly get the most legit copy, and I forgot the password to THAT file (if I had thought to remove the password when I had it... or if any password crackers could figure it out...) so I'm using just the unpacked files. Anyway, what happens is it gets to the loading screen after the intro movie. When it gets to "Extruding Mesh Terrain" (the first thing it does), I get dumped to the desktop. Sometimes, I'll get to the next one, then it dumps me back. Any idea what could fix this?

The loading screen text is just gibberish, it's just inside jokes and have nothing to do with the game itself. (like reticulating splines http://www.reviewgames.com/pageIndex.htm?Reviews/The_Sims_Livin_Large/pic_1.htm&0 On my last birthday I had an similar problem, I found out it was an user made floor who crashed the game, deleting that floor solved the problem. It's sounds like an corrupted file... Which file is the one you forgot the password on? (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 03-26-04 06:59 AM) |

I remember "Reticulating splines" from SimCity 2000, when starting a new city ... for some reason, I thought that meant it was generating the mountains and slopes It probably has to do with a missing or corrupted file, because The Sims is supposed to work perfectly in Windows XP (my sisters have it and even some of the expansions) |

Kitten Yiffer: It's the archive... it's an ACE file in 24 parts (the original, then .c01 to .c23). I don't remember exactly where it was from... just that it came off of IRC and worked before. I think it's ACE 2.0, though, so no one seems to have any way to crack it. I've also got House Party (that's a RAR file with a handful of ZIP files in THAT, but I don't believe they're protected) and Livin' Large (that's a protected ZIP file). Think they're all decompressed on another CD, though I think that's what I installed off of. I believe I do have Livin' Large, the original, and House Party decompressed and unprotected.

If you understood the first post, you'd realize he doesn't have a CD... nor did he buy the game. Please read! *close* |
