| I watched this movie in the theaters the other week when it came out I loved it... nice movie.. really gets you out of your seat.. but what troubled me about the whole entireity of the movie was the ending.. (edited by Rydain on 01-21-05 10:21 PM) |

| I don't have any opinion on White Noise because I haven't seen it, but as a skeptic, I'm annoyed that its marketing campaign hypes electronic voice phenomena (EVP), which is of course the premise behind the movie, as fact. I might think there was something to EVP if the "ghost" voices left recordings that would be very difficult to explain via other means, such as a series of messages that structurally resemble the dead person's manner of speaking and contain specific personal information. I recently saw a talk show featuring guests who were convinced that their loved ones were contacting them through EVP. The messages were quite generic, and at least one wasn't even understandable unless you knew what it was supposed to be saying. They all could be explained as stray signals from cordless phones, CB radios, radio broadcasts, and other similar wireless communications or the audio equivalent of seeing Jesus in a tortilla. Our brains are naturally good at finding patterns in sounds and visuals, so in a mess of white noise, we may very well "hear" something that isn't there because we match it up with a human voice. This is the same reason you might think you hear the phone or doorbell ringing in the middle of a shower. Well-done ghost stories involving technology can be very entertaining. I loved The Ring (and it scared the crap out of me) although I know it's impossible for TV's to do what they did in the movie. I just get irritated by the deliberate spread of pseudoscience. (Unsurprisingly, one of my favorite TV shows is Penn & Teller's Bullshit!  ) I didn't see The Ring's trailers pimping VCR Death Syndrome or anything like that.  |

| Well, EVP does have SOME scientific backing. But it is quesitonable. White Noise has been scientifically proven to piss Ziff off. I half expected the Bat Mobile to show up at the end. |

| Eh, the movie was okay. It was average..same as other movies, predictable. It didn't scare me but my friend jumped out of her seat when they had those little sounds in scary movies and nothing happends which was funny. I liked the other movies we watched..more than this one. | |||
