So, anyone else see this? I managed to catch it during the limited showing stages, last Saturday. It wasn't too bad.

A lot of people are going to compare it to Hero, I can guarantee that. It's just not as good as Hero, mainly because it's not the same movie.

The story was pretty good, there were a few things that caught me off guard, not many, but enough to keep me watching. It's not like it was OMG UNPREDICTABLE, but at the same time, it wasn't exactly boring.

The fights were well choreographed, and the emphasis on the daggers themselves as they were used in a fight was cool. It wasn't something I had seen before, that's for sure.

The camera style also used a sort of bullet-time effect at times, but it wasn't really as cheesy as the Wachowski brothers overblew it.

As far as the ending goes, it was kind of a drag. I won't give it away, but the movie's makers, IIRC, said that because it was geared toward Chinese audiences, American audiences wouldn't feel the same way. The ending is serious, and ironic, as well, and as such most people will probably laugh at it, even though they don't want to. Supposedly, irony doesn't translate well from English to Chinese or vice versa.

Personally, I'd rather watch Hero a third or fourth time than this, but that doesn't stop it from being a bad film. It was well put together. Just.... not as good as Hero, which is what I have a feeling a lot of people will say about it. Or else it'll be better than Hero, if you really liked the movie.

Bottom line is, it's gonna be compared to Hero somehow.

I thought it was good, but it was too drawn out. I thought the film was about to end about three times, and yet it didn't. I could've achieved a far greater impact if it was short and sweet, but it tried to hard to extend itself.

It wasn't too bad, though

Storywise, yeah, Hero's a light version of House of Flying Daggers, but as far as action goes, I thought the fighting in Hero was much smoother and better choreographed. The fights in House just didn't jump out at me.

Plus, I was a big fan of the Emperor's "Three Stages of a Warrior" philosophy, I thought it gave Hero a lot more meaning than it already had.

I liked Hero too, but there was too much of Computer Graphics there, especially on that bow scene..
