Just change its name to CON.DLL and it will erase itself. Yeah sure, like if deltree /y would work *Rollseyes* |

I guess I should be more specific. I get alerts from my virus scanner that this file that doesnt exist keeps doing things. | |||

I think it may be something with your virus scanner then I looked on google for both 'sqlhopp.dll', and 'sqlhopp', and both searches didn't return any results Try doing a search on your computer for the file, and see if anything turns up there. If, as you say, the file truly doesn't exist, then I'd place the blame on something being wrong with your virus scanner. |

I haven't heard anything about it, and there's not much a DLL could do on its own. Consider running msconfig and checking your startup entries. If you're using XP, I don't think there should be any DLLs in there; under Win98 you might see a few instances of powerprof.dll or something like that. (Any DLLs would be listed under rundll32.exe.) Sure it's not just a warning or error message related to this file? (edited by HyperHacker on 01-16-05 10:25 PM) |

And for gods sake, tell us what the virus scanner says. Viruses love to hide as DLL's (since you can execute them). And well, you maybe could move it in Safe mode. Althought I wouldn't delete it right away, it might be a fake warning. |

DLLs aren't directly executable, they just contain functions that other programs can call. The only way for code in a DLL to be run 'alone' is to use RunDLL32 to call it. Also, if you're doing a full virus scan, it's probably nothing. I did one last night, just for the hell of it, and it warned me about various system files such as kernel32 and user32 being modified. It's probably just doing a checksum of them, not accounting for changes made by security updates. (Didn't find any actual virus, but it did delete a program which isn't a virus but for some reason is listed in AV databases. ) (edited by HyperHacker on 01-17-05 01:45 PM) |
