For some reason, my pagefile will continue growing even when no one's on the computer and few programs are running.

For example, last night I went to bed, it was at 2.5 GB... woke up, it was at about 4.9.

None of the processes in the list had a VM size of over 20000kB (minus one that was at 100MB, but killing that made no dent in the PF size), which is wierd.

I know it's got to be a program, because when I had to restart this piece of shit, I watched it... right before the computer turned off it mysteriously went down to 107 MB again .

This is just a bit strange, because no matter what I do the PF size keeps going up and it's beginning to annoy me. I had to restart at least once every few hours because it'd hit the limit, then I just said fuck it and made the maximum 5 GB...

...but really, this is beginning to piss me off

EDIT: It's now at 724 running the same programs I was running hours ago. Blahrhrhghghghgh.

(for the uninformed: I'm now using XP. Better computer. 512MB RAM.)

By chance, would you happen to have any mIRC extensions, mainly ones made by Bouche?

Yes, the SM one (but mIRC hasn't been opened today, and it's still going up (now it's at 729; it was at 378MB about an hour ago)

Good idea could be to list all the processes you have running. I also assume your explorer.exe isn't hacked?

If by "hacked" you mean 'had any modifications to it', not that I've done.

Wow, you have horrible taste in colours. Anyway, why not just let it build up, then kill off one program at a time until it goes back down? One of them seems to have a memory leak of some sort.

What's so wrong with my choice of color scheme? It's perfectly fine for me.

You're one to talk?

I know this much, Trillian has a tendency to eventually give me Memory Low errors. It constantly builds up memory usage over time. Winamp too if it's been playing for a while (especially the emulation type deals, I notice that tends to tax a bit more than just plain MP3s).

I can't vouch good or bad for Opera but it looks like that's the majority of your problem by Mem usage. If you close it, does the charge drop a large sum or not?

No clue if that mySQL thing is a database/serv for you or not...that could be another reason it's huge.

Well of course Opera is going to use a lot, the question is if the usage keeps going up. 33MB does seem like a lot for Winamp though; a faulty plugin could be to blame.

...maybe you have any viruses, belive me. Thoose can and will take up alot of space, often becuse of bad programming. The same thing with Spyware\Adware.

If Winamp grows in size when it plays SPCs and such, it's the plugin's fault. Plugins are after all small programs running inside Winamp...

MySQL needs alot of cache I think, becuse of the way it works. Dunno, i'm not a expert on that. Opera seems to be the biggest cause somehow.
