Hi.

I don't know when this first happened, but everytime these days I try to play my Sonic CD game for PC, the title screen shows up correctly (I use Windows 98 incase anyone is wondering), but when I go to play a zone, I get the following message:

SONICCD caused an invalid page fault in
module DMIX.DLL at 017f:004498fb.

Is there any way I can fix this annoying problem?

Thanks in advance.

I can't even play all of my Sonic games that are on the PC. One of the games that I have, it runs way too fast. It's like the game is in fast forward.

Sounds like an audio issue (dmix, I assume, is for a sound card's mixer)

Try updating to the latest drivers for everything. Does the game require Win2K or XP?

I think the game needs at least Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 to run.

Surprisingly, I managed to check out another site, and it had a link on how to fix the problem, so the game is working fine now.

With this problem behind me, this can be closed now.

I opened this up again, because I need help with my problem stated before. Can you give a link to this site that helped you out or can anyone here tell me why this is happening? It just might be that it won't run with XP, though, but there has to be a way to play it.

Have you tried compatibility updates? I assume you have SP1 installed.

Go to Windows Update and let it scan. Install all major updates as well as any compatibility updates (including "814995: Recommended Update") - Note, the compat. updates are in the 2nd option (not automatically D/Led or installed as a critical update)

Otherwise, if the game was designed for Win95, Right-click the shortcut, Compatibility tab, and try running it in Windows 95 (or Win98/ME) mode, then try 640x480, then try 256 colors.
If none of that works the game is just too old. Go get a P133 to play it

The problem is simple: The game was designed on a slow computer and the lazy programmers just used cycle delays instead of timed ones. The result being that a faster computer plows through them and runs it too fast. The solution? Once you start the game, try opening the Task Manager, right-clicking it in the Processes tab, and setting the priority as low as possible. Running a lot of CPU-heavy apps (endlessly encrypting random strings in MD5'll help, I'll send you a program if you need one ) and using a lot of RAM will also slow it down. If nothing else you might need to get a patch, though depending on the game's hackability and popularity, you might only find one to increase the delay values (meaning you'd have this problem again if you upgraded). Or you might get lucky and find an official patch.
