I've seen this program before, but not with a space before it. Also, it seems quite odd that many of these fields are blank. I closed it and nothing unusual seems to be happening, nor has it restarted... |

From http://www.processlibrary.com: Microsoft Windows On Windows Execution Process Hot windows on windows action Anyway, the empty fields seem strange, but that's happened too often. The space before it, though... wierd. |

I did a google search for it, and I came across this page which seems to have some info on it. Apparently it's used to run 16-bit applications, so if you close it, and try to open an application that fits into that category, it'll start itself up again. As far as the space before it, I don't know why it would be there I'm don't know why those columns are blank though Edit: Reading through another board I found via the google search, I came across something about the space at the beginning of the process name, and likely why the other columns are blank: "There is a spoof of this process called _wowexec.exe. Running a program such as Lavasoft's AdAware or SpyBot S&D should remove the spoof. Note that the naughty stealth authors are using this methodology more and more. Creating a spoof of a known process which you would typically miss on casual inspection. Yet another reason why it is more and more important to run such utilities. More is written on these wonderful utilities elsewhere in this section. " (edited by Karadur on 01-13-05 06:14 PM) (edited by Karadur on 01-13-05 06:14 PM) (edited by Karadur on 01-13-05 06:15 PM) |

Well, it hasn't shown up since I closed it, even after a few reboots. (Apparently a hard enough smack can crash a computer. ) I'll scan sometime soon though (generally like to do it every now and then). Now if only this QuickCam thing didn't have so many extra programs with weird names, even when the damn camera's not plugged in. Stupid cheap hardware. |

I think it's becuse it's running wowexec.exe under Trillian, yes it sounds strange. But I have seen that behavior with a 16-bit program. (win 3.1 program...) Notice that there is no memory set, since it dosen't really know and shares with the main program "Trillian". | |||

You should get Process Explorer. Much more detailed than Task Manager. |
