A banned user was banned due to breaking the rules repeatedly. People think he kicked ass, ignoring the flames that came out of him. People will flock to his rescue, despite how fair or unfair it might have been. I didn't think you had that kind of statement in you, Xk. When people start asking me "so how long is the permaban", it really pisses me off AND makes me think about stuff. (This is why I blocked you on AIM, windwaker - nothing personal and I'll probably get around to unblocking you tonight, but saying stuff like that wasn't a wise idea.) On one hand, it pisses me off because it means that certain members of the community take permabans as being a joke. "Oh well, he's gone for a while but you know he'll be back down the line." On the other hand, it makes me think of all the times we HAVE permabanned users and then seen them come back without any difficulties or real resistance. So there has to be a line drawn somewhere - either we start giving longer bans for serious offenses by repeat offenders to be nice, or we stick with our guns and say "Once someone's PERMAbanned, that's it no matter what as long as the staff reaches an agreement on it." I think we gave Legion a TON of chances, ever since the Pinion days. (Points to you if you remember that.) He's been banned (and PERMAbanned) a bunch of times but always comes back. We gave him more leniency that he deserved, and it did seem at first that all this leniency was good and that it looked like he was on the right track, but in the end it all blew up in our faces. If we were to unban him, the smart money says that he'll end up blowing yet another chance sooner or later. You can only be sent to the principal's office so many times before you're expelled, to use an analogy. |

Unfortunate, but not unlucky. Legion was banned for a reason, and like it or not it was time for him to face a ban. If anyone misses him, he'll still be lurking around on AIM, I assume. In principle, I believe the permaban should be permenent. I don't really have a personal opinion on the matter yet |

I find it interesting that the logic being used to defend Legion's permaban is the very same logic Legion used to defend Kario's ban. | |||

Originally posted by EmptyeyeAnd you know, he isn't the only one who done this. Infact I get annoyed at people who try to attack one personally instead of countering your opinion. People shouldn't try to make other look dumb, they just look blown up. Sure there is dumb people around but... He hadn't been online on the board since the ban,or on AIM. I have him on AIM, but I hadn't contacted him personally in long time. But well, either he blocked me (unlikely, since he probably don't know who Gamefreak1337 is xD) or he is just offline. I really don't want to drag up IRC quotes. |

"I really don't want to drag up IRC quotes." So don't...jesus christ. What is the fucking big deal here? Staff banned Legion. OMFG CALL GOD DAMN CNN. I'm assuming people know that, ready, get this...OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BANNED BEFORE. Wow, just drop it already. People go on and on like it's life or death here. This was a dumb thread anyways. Rain said it...if you can find hard evidence that Legion should be unbanned...bring it to light, if not...too bad. |
