This is just proof that paedophiles can be helped and that crowding the jails where they will be violently abused is just not cutting it, because this is more a mental disease than anything. <3 the Canadian Justice System, I says, <3 it!

This sounds like a good thing. I've pretty much always had the idea that pedophiles, serial killers and the likes are suffering from some kind of mental problem/disease. (Although, this can sometimes be dependant on the situation.) That's why I think they should receive help, as well as punishment. (Jail). Punishment, because what they did WAS wrong, but help, to help them get a more normal life, and to lessen the chance of them commiting further crimes.

Congratulations, Canada.

Anything is possible with a sufficient amount of volunteers. However, the fact that it apparently takes six volunteers per pedophile, it seems like this program seems limited in its usefulness. How many people are in this program? Likely not more than a few dozen. Could it be employed on a massive scale? Most likely not, unless you really believe that there's 6 people willing to volunteer time for every pedophile out there.

I mean, hey, I'm sure Ted Bundy would've been a productive member of society if he had 20 people helping him out. But that really seems like a waste of time.

you'd be amazed at how big this could become...

if this breaks out into the mass media.... and a lot of people know about it.... it could definately get the funding to work....

a lot of parents would like to see something like this work.... so they aren't worrying about ths sort of thing as much....

hhallahh, everyone can, and deserves to be a productive member of society, your censure of various aspects of human life disturbs me.

Also, there is a sexual deviant in the centre of the group, and there are safe observers, not 6 volunteers, some of those people are also being treated and they are helping each other out.

For most parents, a 30% recidivism rate is still far too high, especially when the option is open to simply fry the bastards. Not that I endorse this position, but... let's be realistic.

Umm.. yes.. I censure adults having sex with children. Is this an "aspect of human life" which should be celebrated? That's pretty sketchy.

Either way, I probably dismissed this program too easily. The volunteers' commitment is relatively small, and so it may be feasible.

The 6 volunteers could easily work with multiple people. The recidvism rate is actually less than locking them up for 25 years, as stated. And the expense of execution by all realistic standards outweighs the societal risk.

And IMO these people are diseased, and really need help. Keep them in relative isolation and gradually introducing them to society will really, really help.
