The Alone in the Dark and the Clock Tower series are brilliant. Multiply that by Silent Hill and the original Dinocrisis. AWESOME.

Hmm, well after watching the new exclusive trailers at Gametrailers over this game, I must say, it's kind of surprising. Some of the cutscenes make it seem almost like you're playing an MGS or something. It just definitely looks quite different from the past RE games. But am I saying it looks bad? Not a bit, it looks totally badass. ;P |

Phew! Just beat the game last night...for the first time, anyway... Spoiler: For beating the game, you unlock a couple of mini games - Assignment: Ada, and The Mercenaries...yeah, THAT Mercenaries game from RE3. Plus, doing well in the minigames unlocks quite a few extra weapons. I already got a Tommygun with infinite ammo by beating Assignment Ada. Nice... Oh, and there's Professional difficulty now, and the ability to play through the game again while keeping all your custom weapons. |

Okay, here's a synopsis of most of the back story, as wanted. MAJOR SPOILER WARNING... Spoiler: The lead infection behind all the monsters is a parasitic thing called Las Plagas. It was unearthed by a cult called Los Illuminados, with the assistance of a rich midget guy named Ramon Salaazar, whose ancestors supposedly sealed Las Plagas away underground hundreds of years ago. The Las Plagas were dormant in a fossil-like state, and spread themselves like spores once they were dug up by the local villagers. They began infecting the villagers, which spread from there. The Plagas soon grew into thier full adult state in thier new hosts. From what I gather, the leader of Los Illuminados, Lord Saddler, became the "Overmind" of sorts for the Las Plagas, being able to control anyone or anything infected with a Plaga. Hence, the infected villagers (aka "Not Zombies") were dubbed Ganado (meaning Cattle, or something like that). From there, Saddler experimented on the Las Plagas. One of the researchers, Luis Sera, bailed out after the experimentation went too far, and is being hunted by the Los Illuminados. Saddler's ultimate goal was to conquer the United States of America, and use it's power to infect the world. His strategy? Kidnap the President's daughter, Ashley, infect her with a Plaga, and ransom her back. Once she returns home, she's fully infected, and goes nuts, supposedly killing the President. Los Illuminados steps in in the confusion, and quietly infect the US with Las Plagas. (Something like that) Meanwhile, a mercenary, Jack Krauser, is the one to actually kidnap Ashley. He did it to gain Saddler's trust so he could get a sample Plaga specimen. Why? Because he is working with none other than....Albert Wesker. Wesker also sent another agent to get a Plaga sample, one who would be working outside of the Los Illuminados knowledge: Ada Wong. Wesker's ultimate goal, from the looks of things, is to get Umbrella back up and running again. However, it seems like Krauser and Miss Wong both have very different ways of getting the job done... Then, there is our friend Leon. I won't give too much away about what happens to him, as he is pretty much the glue that bonds all this together, and I think I've spoiled enough here already. Don't say I never did anything for ya. |

I just got this game two days ago, it's so good. It's definately a great step for the RE series. I also picked up the RE0 and RE1 two pack for GC to get the RE0 story and see how good they could make RE1. I'm at the begining of chapter three, and everything about this game is great. I love the interaction with the environment, great addiction to the game play, as well as the aiming system. And I have no beef with the camera angles, cause that's the way the game is supposed to be, kinda realistic in the fact that you can't see behind you in the game or in real life. It definately makes the game a helluva lot more scary. And the merchant is definately badass. "What are you buying?" so cool. As for the old games not being any good, that's a straight up lie. Those games are amazing. I love the story of RE and the gameplay in the old games is different, but not bad. I just went through RE2 Leon's story to get a little pre-RE4 gameplay, and it was great. That's the one thing I miss from the fourth one, Racoon City. NE ways, if you don't have this game, get RE4, even if you haven't liked the old RE games I'm pretty sure you'll love this, probably one of the best games I've gotten in ages. |

Im gonna buy it today. Finally! I was watching XPlay last night and they gave RE4 a 5 out of 5 and thier highest recommendation saying that it would most likely be the best game of 2005. I be to differ (Kingdom Hearts 2!!!!) but anyways the game is obviously great. The only thing thats buggin me a little is that there are no zombies. I cant see RE without Zombies...and those rotting little buggers are just so cool! So its 6 years later after the incident at Racoon City, did the T-Virus get stopped and the zombies all disposed of? What happened? I feel like im missing a huge chunk of the story. |

Chances are there are small pockets of old Umbrella stock piles (like in Antarctica) where zombies still exist, but it doens't elaborate on them. All of the zombies in the US are gone with the destruction of Raccoon city. But the factories of Umbrella Europe aren't really talked about too much, but it is quite probable that there were minor contaminations there. I'm hoping that they come out with concurrent stories elaborating on the Umbrella operations outside of Raccoon city. Although the Gun Survivor story does have a few interesting points (mostly the recent PS2 one) they are generally cancelled out by the events presented in 1-3. But you'll come to love the lack of zombies and all of this funness. But we all know the best RE game ever is Code Veronica. |

CV was good, but I always like Nemesis. I have no idea why, just cause it was fun, and awesome to be back in Racoon and see all the stuff that was in the second game. Something about that made me love that game. But honestly, RE is one of my favorite series, if not the best series I've ever played. I love the story of the series, it's great, which most of my friends here have no clue about, which causes them to be mad when I read all the little notes that I find everywhere in RE4, they don't get why I do it. Anyways, definately buy RE4, nothing better than it, and hopefully they'll release a game that describes what exactly happened in these past 6 years, maybe with some of the old stars memebers that are still around. We can only hope that will happen.

Not many STARs survived Nemesis. So I don't think that beyond the ones we know that made it out we'll see any I'd just like to see a game that explains some of Umbrella's experiments leading up to Raccoon city, or some of the other facilities. It would be exciting to see Capcom build on the story. |

Oh, like Chris Redfield and the rest of the STAR team's investigation into Umbrella before the Mansion. That would be awesome, just not so sure how that would work out, cause that doesn't seem like you could make much of a story there. Maybe a lil crazy here, but you could have a DVD movie, not a theatrical release, more like FFVII:AC that would fill in a lot of the background story, kinda like a bonus, and then have the new game. I think that could work, but not completely sure, depends on if they want to put the time, effort, and money into that, or if they can make a game out of it, cause that would definately be better. Quick question, are the movies at all related to the story of the games, like, watching them, does that help flesh out any of the story, cause I got the impression that it probably doesn't. Also, do the RE:Outbreak games have any significant story to them, or are they just a multiplayer game that doesn't really add much to the story. |

The first real run into Umbrella occurs at Resident Evil Zero. Beyond that we have no prior knowledge of it, beyond a file being kept. Placed by citizens fearing for the worst as there are problems occuring at the mansion. PS - the European RE4-GC combo is too damned good to be true. |

I honestly believe this is the best game I have ever played. I thought the whole no zombies thing would be weird, but I still see people running at me and trying to kill me and grabbing my neck and trying to bite out my jugular vein. It's all good. I beat it twice already and am on my third run through. I have the Chicago Typewriter and the Infinite Launcher. I am working up enough pesetas and skill to get the handcannon, which will be sweet. Replay value is incredible. RE4=Awesome

Wow, I thought this thread was dead... (No pun intended.) Sion: Sounds like the Red9. You really only need one handgun. My advice? Sell 'em both for the Blacktail later on. It's way better. Also, the virus was destroyed. Racoon City got nuked, remember? Guru of Furu: The Outbreak games do have a story to them. At least they hold more relevance than the movies, which had little to do with the actual official storyline. While the subject is up, RE Rebirth used to be my favorite, until 4 came along. I have to admit, though, that I still play 2 and 3 every now and then. I think they still hold up. |
