The Metal Gear Solid series. I love to watch someone play it (usually my fiance) but I can't find myself playing them on my own. I mean, the series in a whole is great, (love the musical score) but as far as playing it, I'm not that hyped up about it.

I have lots of them, but those two just have failed to grow on me.

Popular:
Halo 1 & 2 (OMG WTF)

Games people hate:
Final Fantasy 8 (as said in my thread about FF8 in the FF Forum, awhile ago)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (people don't stop whining because it has Cel Shaded Graphics... while I don't give a fuck)

I know there's more, I'll just have to think more (In other words, I'll edit later).

GTA.
And Counter-Strike, which is still played today in Norway. The CS players tend to hate all games more than a year old for their graphics, but still play CS. Yeah..
Oh, and Halo. It's not that I dislike it, it's just that I don't think it's more than a half decent FPS, rather than the reincarnation of every god that ever was, is or will be.

And if it counts, Advance Wars and all the other "there are unlimited resources and you opponents have access to the same units as you" turn based strategy games. Give me Fire Emblem style any day.

As for stuff I like, but no one else does, the 3D Castlevanias and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. All 3 are fun little games, in fact, SotE happens to be my favourite Star Wars game. I just can't see why those games are so hated.

Even though I'll argue it's a "good" game, yes, I agree. It's not anywhere close to being the best game or best RPG ever, not even close.

Stuff I like that nobody else does, in other words underated?
Oh simple:
- Deus Ex: The Conspiracy
- Suikoden I and II
- Terranigma
- Flashback
- FFIV (a lot of negativity on this game)
- Blaster Master - Not that I doupt there's plenty of fans here, I haven't seen anyone mention this amazing game yet.
- Vagrant Story

Popular games I hate:
- Counter-strike
- Splinter Cell Games
- Fable

First off, games that I like that other people don't. This is just taken from the general opinion of people that I know, online and off. I'll put the platform beside the game name, for the sake of telling what console it's for

:: Scaler (Gamecube)
:: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Gamecube)
:: Umihara Kawase * (SNES)

Games that a good percentage of other people like, that I don't:

:: Final Fantasy VII ** (PSX)
:: Counter Strike, or almost any online game for that matter (PC)
:: Advance Wars (GBA)
:: Halo 2 (XBOX)
:: Most, if not all sports games (Various)
:: In general, games where you fly through space doing stuff (PC)

* I haven't seen very much said about this game, but I still find it quite fun to play. If it's any measure of how fun I find it, I've played through it nearly 10 times now, and I'll still go through it again. Here's the link to the GameFAQs page on the game, if you're wondering exactly what it is

** I know this one has been said already, and I agree with that opinion as well. The first time I saw this game, I was at a friend's house, and it looked like the greatest thing ever, and he told me that it was. 3 or 4 years later, I finally get a chance to get an ISO of the game, play some of it, and I'll have to say I was dissapointed. Maybe it's because I hadn't seen the game in a while, but I couldn't remember what I found so great about it the first time around

Yes, I realize the second list is substantially larger than the first, but this will be edited if I think of more.

Tom Clancy games. All of them. Anyone who plays them is a weiner.

99% of all flight sims. I want to be able to crash my plane into my neighbours fucking house or just ram it right into the ocean if I start losing a game, not have to heed air traffic controller warnings and listen to a bitchy co-pilot. The airlines goddamned fault for giving me the safety of all those people.

Games I like yet were dissed by lots of people (online, at school, etc.):

Re-volt (it was a good racing game, but not popular enough)
Zelda: The Windwaker (it is good, but people hate the graphics)
Pokemon Series (it is a great game concept and battle system, but people complain of it being too kiddish)
Yoshi's Story (I love that game, but complaints of it being kiddish...)

Games that are popular and I am so-so on:

Halo + Halo 2 (multiplayer is good, but once beaten, there is no need to play)
GTA (I like to free roam, not play those missions)

Games that are too overated:

Splinter Cell Series (too concentrated on the graphical quality and not enough variation)
Metal Gear Solid (why is it good?)
Madden [insert year here] (WHEN WILL IT END!? ITS THE SAME EVERY YEAR BESIDES THE STATS!)
Final Fantasy Series minus the original Tactics (they are now... degrading...)
ANYTHING THAT LOOKS REALISTIC (where is the gameplay?)
A massivly multiplayer game (I have had enough of those)
Most RPGs (cliche... too many cinematics)
Most violent games (other than graphics, these are what games are concentrated around)
Popular Movies made into games (too glitchy, poorly made, just the title is good... sometimes)
Sequels that are more like the first (like I need to see another Jak game)
Counter Strike (the people online think they are soooo tough)

I would complain more, but I don't know other games that will fit here for right now...

I can honestly say that I don't like several Zelda games. Zelda 1, LTTP and OoT are the only ones I really care for, I just can't stand playing II or MM. My time spent playing WW was filled with rage. The graphics played a big part in my hatred of that game. The story had so many depressing parts, and the bright colours never changed. The graphics were brilliant for the series, but Nintendo was disingenious with their deployment.

I'm not a fan of SSBM, SSB for the 64 was a stroke of genius, everything about the game was perfect and left me with many fond memories of kicking ass with Ness. Then SSBM came out. With cheap shit beginner chars like Zelda-Shiek I just couldn't swallow the game. I felt that they took what I loved and destroyed it. I give props for the introduction of fun characters like Bowser and Mr. G&W, but most of it is pretty shitty.The only thing that caught my eye in that game was the graphics, the gameplay stunk and the mini-games are worse. Maybe I'm jaded because I like to play good games, but SSBM just was, plain and simple, bad.

Ziff, please inform me if you ever intend to get on a plane, so that I can evacuate.

Popular games I don't like:
-Goldeneye. WTF is so great about it? It's just another FPS, but with crappy graphics and annoyingly long death scenes.
-The DKC series. Yay, a generic platformer. The only thing that stood out was the graphics, and that hardly makes a game any good. Not being able to go back to save points until you get to a certain level in each world was a really stupid idea too.

Unpopular games I like:
-Duke Nukem 64. This one was actually fun, thanks to neat weapons like the laser trip bomb, and multiplayer just kicks ass.
-Most of Pok

DKR = AWESOME

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.

More vehicles than Mario Kart 64. Each character with unique traits. The boss races were rad. The music was even better.

One of the best games ever made.

What the hell happened to the sequel? (the ending. then again a ton of games like to do that)

And Ziff, Zelda II isn't too bad. Not until recently I thought it was pretty much crap, but it's pretty fun ... just very different. Then again, I played it on and off when I was pretty young so I probably have different judgement.

But it's pointless argueing in this thread, we have our opinions.

Games the majority seem to like that I don't:
- Pretty much any first-person shooter game... I never really got into the genre.
- Strategy games, ala Starcraft... there was this huge Starcraft phase last year in my school. I managed to get a hold of a copy of the game, tried it, but disliked it... the same goes for Warcraft... (They're just not my type)

Games the majority seem to dislike (i may be wrong), but I enjoy:

- Sim City Series (3000 and later)...

Originally posted by Keikonium
- The Sims (by EA Games) including all the expansions

WOW! ONE MIND!!!
I have not tried all of the expansion packs for The Sims, but I have tried the Deluxe Edition & The Sims 2... while it took a long time to get going, I kinda got hooked for a while... Great games...

As for the Tony Hawk games, I have both THPS3 and THUG2 for PC. Perhaps my favorite games I own for the PC. (I recently had a blast ROYALLY KICKING MY BROTHER'S ASS in the 2-Player mode... in Trick attack, I must have beat him 500,000 to 300,000! And in the Horse Mode, well, he was called a "DonVitoToenail" more than once... )

I'd have to agree with the Metal Gear Solid series - MINUS the VR Missions. I also find it hard to get into most FPS games.

On the other hand, I really like a lot of niche games... I'll just list a few off the top of my head.

Denki Blocks (GBA) - Extremely original puzzle game where you have to slide blocks around a board so that all blocks of a certain color fuse together - of course, you have white (stationary) blocks along with other colors working against you. It got good reviews but I don't think it sold so well.
Mighty Bomb Jack (NES) - Lots of people don't like this game at all (some would say it's one of the worst NES games) but I think that they're full of bullcrap. It was one of the first games I got for the NES, and if you're wondering about the gameplay... action levels with an arcade level at the end. (In the former, you're getting from point A to B avoiding enemies; in the latter, you have to pick up all bombs on screen to open the door to the next level.) Mindless fun. (Bomb Jack itself would likely NOT go into that category because most people agree that it's a good arcade game.)
Wizards and Warriors I/II/III (NES) - I don't really know how popular the games were, but they were all good games even though they fell under the ACCLAIM blanket - of course, they were all Rare games to begin with. I thought the third one was really unique with the three classes, but then again it came out too late in the life of the NES to make any real impact. I still say that Ironsword (II) is the best though.
