If there's ever been proof that Windows is crap, this is it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/theclaw/error.jpg I've tried Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Antispyware, Norton Antivirus, and the Windows System Restore. Nothing has fixed my error! Even manually typing in a new copy of the file Autoexec.nt doesn't help. I can place it in c:\windows\system32, but it'll completely vanish upon a reboot (which is neccessary for Windows to load system files like this). The issue started after browsing keygen/warez/crack sites looking for "condition zero". Google doesn't even appear to list the offending site now, even though it was there either this morning or yesterday. Microsoft's listing about MS-DOS programs didn't help didn't work. There's got to be a way to fix my computer problem... | |||

This is an odd error...anyways, my copy of Duke Nukem 3D doesn't run because of sound blaster not found but that is a different story. Anyways, restarting the computer doesn't help? Not even having the latest spyware definitions either? It could also be the case that something in the windows registry is messed up such that it is not registered as spyware EDIT: maybe something is starting up that deletes autoexec.nt. so, does a msconfig check of startup find anything for you? Windows XP is not built on DOS, and the system that looks like DOS emulates only a subset of MS-DOS, not the whole thing. I've never seen games like Doom or Duke 3D work in the normal NT/2k/XP DOS subsystem. Try DOSBox. It's a full emulator focused on games, but one goal is to emulate all the MS-DOS functions. |

Aghh! This is far worse than I thought. I've reinstalled Windows, but have a bunch of other problems. It appears that data on my D drive is being corrupted again. I was certain that NTFS had been the miracle for it. What's really weird is how in my emulator directories, folders containing Nintendo ROMs and emulators appear to be damaged more than ones with Sega files. For example, my GBA and SNES stuff look gone, yet the Genesis folder is untouched. This doesn't seem random. I'll keep reporting on this breaking case until it's all fixed. |

Well... NTFS is not an infailable filesystem. Nothing is. But it sounds like a virus wipped through your disks. |

either that or disk corruption...maybe you need to run chkdsk; anyways, i hope you had backup of your stuff because this looks serious based on what you have described... |
