Hi,

I plan to sell my SNES and the games (everything PAL and mostly German), and I have something I'm wondering about. I have three Super Mario World cartridges here. Two look the same, they have "Super Mario World" on the front like in the title screen, "Super" small and in one line, "Mario World" a bit bigger and in the second line. The other cartridge has the "Super Mario World" all in one line. Apart from that, there's no visible difference except for an additional "-1" at the end of one of the strings on the cartridge.

I know there are different versions of the Super Mario World ROM. Are these cartridges different versions? What's the difference between those versions anyway? Might this even be a collector's item?

Well, here is the one-lined one.
And here is the normal one.

Not really sure if one is rare. There is also one with the cartridge the same as the first but with two lines. I have both of the above ones myself.

I have the one-line version too. I think that's V1.0 and the other is V1.1.

The bottom one is a player's choice version. That could be the difference.

This is probably correct, both of my SMW's are 2 lined, so I'm assuming the one lined ones are older.

Maybe it's just a difference for the PAL version?

Could this cause any problems when using programs like Lunar Magic?

Only if you got your SMW ROM by dumping it yourself from a cartridge. There are different versions of the ROM, and the good ones are clearly labeled as such. I believe Lunar Magic only works on 1.0, but I could easily be wrong.

I remember that change. In particular when they stopped giving out those cool cover slips. I thought that was really cheap of them.

I wonder why they scrapped that version of the cart design other than being able to rip the cart out even when the snes was on.

I have three different carts. Dont know if its 3 different versions, but the carts are different. I have the two pictured in the post above, and then I also have one with the one lined version, but Yoshi's feet are tucked behind the blackness instead of overlapping it. And all three carts have the same look as the one with one line (like the surronding area. Its not players choice.

PAL carts have round corners, like seen in that image. I know, the image quality is low due to a missing camera (it's made by my cell), but shows it clearly

I have a one and two liner. I know one of them is v1.1 because they fixed that one letter (I forget which) in "Mario Start" (or I am horribly mistaken).
