I did something really dumb here, and want to know if I'm completely screwed, or if there's some way I can correct this without having to start over...

Okay.

Okay.

In level six (Ancient Ruins) in the beginning of the level there's a turnstyle that blocks access to certain rooms since it can only move certain ways. You manipulate it to get to the left where you can get a key, right? You're supposed to use the key to make it through a block so you can go around and get to the upper room. This block is in the way so it's rather impossible to avoid it, but, I being stupid saved the game and quit, starting at the beginning of the level with the key, thereby bypassing the area you're supposed to put the key in, and I put the key in a different lock because I had forgotten about it. Immediately after doing this though, I saved. The door here lead to the compass and nothing else - I'm stuck, and can't go on thanks to me being stupid and resetting my way past this block.

Is there any way for me to get through this without having to reset?

I'm afraid that unless you have access to a cheat device, you'll have to start over. I believe there was a similar flaw in Link's Awakening which required you to start all over again.

So basicly yes, you're screwed.

Yes, there was. (Seventh Dungeon)

Had to restart, twice.

Recently in LttP (Four Swords to be specific) I got myself stuck in Turtle Rock. I had set a bomb near one of the panel things that controlled the pink and blue blocks, well that exploded, and I was caught in a corner, and normal blocks blocked my way from being able to throw the Boomarang and hit the switch.

Luckily, I remembered about the Mirror.

Xeo, that hardly counts, you didn't have to reset your game.

Also, that sucks.

Well, I suppose I'll play through Oracle of Ages instead, I hear each is quite different if you go through on a linked game, so when I beat it Oracle of Seasons won't be quite as tedious.

I would go around the level bombing any wall, whether it has cracks or not... if nothing turns up, then I would restart. Else, you get lucky and can move on! I thought I was in a position in some dungeon in Links Awakening where I needed to restart (Eagle's Tower, maybe? or was it face shrine), but then I did a run through with bombs and managed to get lucky.

yeah, I got that far and then gave up after I got the ball you were supposed to use to knock the pillars down stuck in a corner with no way of getting it out.

So I purchased the cartridge versions of OoS and OoA today (before I had been playing on the emu.) Definitely worth it.

Er, leave dungeon then come back and it'll be back in it's spot, surely. Or just save and quit and when you restart it should be there.

I don't remember any place in Eagle's Tower where you have to restart your whole game.

Kyouji, I could of *sworn* there's another key to make sure you can't screw up that way.

Can't remember anything about Eagle's Tower, but the fourth dungeon had a place that would force you to restart.
There's this incredibly difficult jump over deep water that looks impossible, but isn't, which leads to a stairway leading to an underground passage. You need to unlock a door or a block to access this passage after doing the jump. Well, you are supposed to swim to this keyhole, and the key you're supposed to use is found underwater. Well, if you unlock this door/block BEFORE you get the flippers, you won't have enough keys to get them. And, without the flippers, you won't be able to get the last key either.
