As you could probably tell from my contest topic, I've been working on a hack for Super Metroid. It's been on and off for the past 4 months or so, but as of late November I've been really speeding up the pace for progress, and am getting ready to finalize the design of the game and build it. Super Metroid: Affliction is a complete overhaul of Super Metroid. And when I mean complete, I mean, COMPLETE. Except for the underlying game engine, almost everything about the game is being changed, from the story to the graphics to the locations, to even enemies and abilities. I'll even have my own homegrown graphical effects and even new music! This will take a while, of course, but I've made a lot of progress understandin the game's engine and designing ways to hijack it effectively (lots of internal changes have been made already) I'd show screenshots, but there isn't many capable still-shots I can give to accurately convey the scope of the project, so I'll give you something even better: a movie! I never did finish SM due to a shitty cartridge. If i move my game out of the SNES or even tap it with a sock(my friend did this) and it erases everything! So I just yesterday started up a new save. Hoping noone will hit it. Well! Seeing as i never finished it, I never saw a boss like that one! Is that your own insertion or did you just alter some graphics? | |||

That looks great! Is there no "boss getting hit" animation in your game? It looked like Samus had no way to whether or not the boss was being hurt until the last shot. |

This looks damn awesome so far...although I DO have one suggestion. Let's just hope I saw everything in the video correctly. I also need to note that I realize this is a WIP, but I still wanted to pipe in annoyingly. =D Basically, I am a realism whore(to a certain degree--depends on the subject). So if the robot exposes its weak-point, it should gain some advantage by doing so(otherwise, why would it do it?!). I suggest when it opens it shoots in four directions(randomly in diagonals or crosses) or some other better/stronger attack. Deliciously good work so far, jman. |

He WAS flashing before though. Not sure why he isn't now, though I guess it won't be that hard to fix really... Also, TheMonster makes a good point. I was originally going to have the boss do something when he opened up, but I figured this was good for now. It'll get better, I promise | |||

Whoah, shiney. One small suggestion -- when the robot goes into the part of the ai where it hugs the ceiling then goes down, it should go down faster, to make it seem more like an actual attack. And I agree with making it have a point to opening up. Still, it's droolworthy, congrats. |

My laptop is in for repairs. All of my neccesary tools are backed up, but I decided to stall this anyway... just until my laptop comes back, don't worry. I haven't programmed anything original from scratch in a while, and occasionally I at least start on some kind of prototype so I don't get rusty when working with C and various APIs... but don't worry, I still have the giant list of crap to do for this hack, including lots and lots of internal and external changes |
