Simple enough question. Have you ever been carded when buying a game? Some retailers are apparently asking for ID when people purchase certain games now, so I was just wondering. If you were carded, what game were you buying? Have any of you been prevented from buying a game due to somebody checking for ID? Personally, I haven't been carded when buying games. Alcohol, yes, going to the casino, yes... videogames, no... |

I've been carded for alcohol, gambling, tobacco, Dave & Busters, and the movies (recently, too!), but never a video game. Of course, I used to work at GameStop, so they know me, and therefore wouldn't need to card me.

I don't buy M rated games, but a lot of my friends do. Apparently they get carded all the time, so they just ask their parents to get the games for them.

Never happened here. Solution: buy games at electronics stores where the people are overweight 30 year old women who know nothing about games. |

Yeah, right, like I could ever afford it. Seriously, I generally only buy games rated E-T, because I haven't seen many interesting M-rated games for any systems I own.

Technically you have to present proof of age for T games. As the law states that a concerned vendor must ask for indetification if your age is in question, like at the movies. But really, who cares? I've never been carded for anything. |

Most of my games for the PS2 have been rated Teen for the most part while theres some in there thats Mature. I haven't been carded for either of the two. Thats funny to get carded on a Teen rated game. Thats like getting carded for a game like Metriod Prime or Ratchet and Clank. haha |

The oldest guy I ever IDed for an 18-rated game turned out to be 26. He was really pissed off and swore at me but its my job. I'm the one who gets fined and loses their job if they get caught.

I hadn't honestly bought a M-rated game in long time. It's not that I find it repulsive thoose games, I just hadn't bought any. I would be surprised if they asked for my ID, but I would show them anyway. |

Well, no. When I was buying Diablo 2, the cashier KNEW I wasn't 18. So I got my mom - had to anyway, she always has all the money. Beyond that one case, it's never come up as most of my games are E or T.

The other obvious question -- do you think that stores should check ID for certain games? Personally, I have no problem with it. I mean, it keeps some stuff (like say, Grand Theft Auto) out of little kids' hands. If those kids parents are okay with it, then I don't care, but if the parents aren't cool with it, it stops the kid from going and getting it themselves. Once you're over a certain age (18 sounds good to me, not sure what the age for this is in the US though) you should be able to do what you like though By that age, you're old enough to make your own decisions..... and just laugh as your parents watch horrified. |

It's 18 here in the states. Except alcohol. Grr. But yeah, carding for games seems fine by me. It's been done for movies for years, and video games are just another type of entertainment medium. |

I was sure that T = 13 and M = 17. At least in Canada. Adults Only would be the only type of "game" that would be 18. |
