To capture your desktop (all versions of windows - no idea about if u use linux etc): 1) minimise all open windows, we want your desktop not your application skins! 2) press PRINT SCREEN (may be labelled PRT SCR). This is above the arrow keys, near HOME, INSERT, DELETE etc on most (99.9999%) of keyboards 3) Open MS Paint and from the FILE menu, select NEW 4) From the EDIT menu, select PASTE (or if you're feeling clever, press and hold CONTROL and then hit the V key). This inserts your captured desktop into paint. 5) From the FILE menu, select SAVE AS (not .bmp files, they are huge) 6) Save the file to your hard drive (I usually give it a sensible name such as ddmmyyyy_desktop so i can find it easily afterwards) and ensure it is saved as JPEG (JPG). 7) Close Paint. 8) Go to your image hosting website and upload the file (instructions for this vary but they are documented on the website if you get stuck) 9) When the image has been uploaded, copy the URL (highlight the details on the "submit sucessful" screen and then CONTROL and C). 10) Come back to the forum and create a REPLY. Ensure the image filename is enclosed by the HTML image tags (use tags brackets "<" and ">" and don't forget to include a "/" on the second one). It' should look something like this: < 11) Click preview and ensure that the link appears and is the correct size. 12) Be praised for having a great desktop You can get a FREE account to host your images ... www.photobucket.com www.imageshack.us I'll add more as I find them http://kwan.jizuko.net/images/desktop20041231.jpg EDIT: Changed my desktop again.. I changed it yesterday but never uploaded or something, anyways, it goes with the pure white theme I'm having. EDIT 2: Stole a desktop FAQ thread from another forum (cookie to the one who guesses which forum) This thread should be linked for future desktop threads too. Neat, huh (edited by Kwanzaa on 12-31-04 05:34 PM) (edited by Kwanzaa on 12-31-04 05:43 PM) |

Here's mine I expanded the start menu for the heck of it I change the Windowblinds theme and wallpaper about once a week, so I'll try to remember to edit my post to show the new screenshot All your desktops look nice as well Funny, that I have the same wallpaper as is in Dracoon's third screenshot, except without the 'Windows XP Dragon Edition' thing on it I also recognize the one in the fourth screenshot from a Bootskin I saw on wincustomize. It seems like you get your wallpapers from the same place I do |

I like your WindowBlinds skin. And you've just reminded me, I really should get ShapeShifter working on my mac again. I miss 'Chocolate Milk'. I'm sick of default Aqua! | |||

this here's what's called "KDE". it's one of them thar lunix thingies. I didn't have to download a crack to skin it, either. most of the icons on the desktop itself I don't really use (except XMMS, X-Chat, and GIMP), however I do use many of the icons along the top panel (including a few Win32 programs (WinRAR, FCEUXD, Winamp, TweakPNG) via WINE). The bottom panel- containing the taskbar- is just random crap; I have other windows open on Desktop 2 (multiple desktops is another of them thar lunix thingies... KDE, GNOME, Fluxbox, and probably a host of other *nix desktop environments have it, but Windows does not. The thing in the far lower-right corner is the desktop switcher). The combo box (drop-down box) in the top panel is for typing quick stuff in, e.g. "#man foo" (a nifty feature provided by KDE) to look up stuff in the manual. then there's the keyboard layout switcher, alarm thing, equalizer, and the all-important Moon Phase Indicator. The bar graph represents CPU, RAM and Swap usage, and then of course there's a clock. And almost every single one of those programs came with the installation of the OS, it's not third-party crap that you have to either pay for and/or risk malware for. The wallpaper image is the same as the background of my post layout; it's light enough that I have X-Chat set with a completely-transparent background and it looks nice. It's modified from this. |

Castlevania crazy desktop... I thought the trendy details look pretty cool. And of course, I got some of my crappy games on there plus my NES, SNES, GB/A Emulators and MAME. |

I'd post mine, but the background is a picture of my dad and some of his guitar buds. Since this is more of a family computer. Karudar: What scheme is that? (scheme? it's real late, can't exactly remember the real word for this.) Windowblinds, that it? (as you posted, I dunno) Whatever it is, it totally rocks. (And I see you're obviously a HL fan, as well as OcRemix. wewt) Dracoon: I liked your last two, since I'm a fan of Dragon works myself, they were pretty neat. Others were dandy too. (I had to edit this about 5 times, I'm going to bed. NIGHTY NIGHT!) (edited by Xeogred on 12-31-04 03:27 AM) (edited by Xeogred on 12-31-04 03:28 AM) (edited by Xeogred on 12-31-04 03:29 AM) |

Originally posted by Xeogred I suppose it could be called a scheme, but I'm more used to calling it a Windowblind, Blind for short, but mostly 'theme'. There's more than just Windowblinds loaded though. To make it easier, I'll just make a list of what's in use there :: WindowBlinds, for starters. The theme in that screenshot is Sage, made by Pixtudio. That's what changes the look of the GUI (Start menu, windows, etc.) :: IconPackager, with the icon package 'Dement (edited by Karadur on 12-31-04 04:16 AM) |

True. But I just had to do it...if nothing else than for Colleen's sake. Actually I had a some wallpaper that I got from Sofie a long while back with the Fujiyama appearance that I made from the Fujiyama wallpaper I had...but I figured why not do this. :\ |
