This is the first round of the tournament, and as a sim-battling tournament, it follows all the rules of normal sim-battling. Except, all of the fights take place in an arena about foot ball field sized, but circular and cement. Good luck in the first match, and try to take advantage of the arena, I didn't describe it fully for a reason.

It doesn't matter which of the two fighters posts first, as long as they post, and battle. All rounds will close in three weeks.

Colonel Wellington's silver/gray Rolls Royce pulled up outside the arena. He got out, and straightened his black tie. It was thin and sleek, matching his jacket and pants. He walked with a cane, but no limp. A handwritten sign pointed to a door and read "to arena."

Upon entrance, the arena was similar to a park found in a city, with a path through the middle, various trees, and a picnic area.

Col. Wellington walked over to a bench and sat down, waiting for his opponent.

A posse of Melvins, all bearing resemblances to one another, were standing by the handwritten sign. In tow were several groups of various Smithys and Boosters, and even a Schneider or two from various universes.

Melvin (Present, Main Timeline, True Universe): Alright, kiddo. We'll be up in the stands. We'll be rooting for you the whole way!

He reached down and patted the four-year old Melvin on the head, who waved as the others walked off to get good seats. Moments later, a chibi Smithy walked up, holding a large, miniature exoskeleton robot, and setting it down at the child's feet.

Melvin (Past, Alternate Universe): Alright... Prepare to watch a master at work!

Smithy (Past, Alternate Universe): Whatever you say, Boss -- Kick butt!

Past,Alternate Universe Melvin (Who henceforth will be referred to as simply Melvin) hopped onto the foot pedals, and slid his tiny arms into the arms. with a few snaps and a quick burst of steam from various cracks, his limbs were locked in tight, and large power bars on the sides of the arms began to glow a bright green. With a satisfying metallic motory noise, Melvin dropped his arms to his side, and walked off towards the arena, his size at least doubled by the suit.

A minute later, the boy entered the arena, and looked around for his opponent. Spotting the Colonel sitting on the bench, he began to walk over to him.

Melvin: Hey! Good day for a fight, isn't it?

Col. Wellington: "That it is old chap...or perhaps young chap, oh jolly good either way. Now, as our American friends say (oh God do I love Celebrity Deathmatch), 'Let's get it on!' "
Wellington rose from his bench, and faced his opponent. He got up gently, using his cane for support.

He seemed to mutter something to the cane, and as if in acknowledgement, it seemed to let off a strange glowing that encompassed it.

The cane itself was very inconspicuous. It appeared like any other, with a black shaft, with a sculpted figure at the head, that of a dragon. But beneath the wood...it seemed like there was something alive.

The young boy was unfazed by his opponent.

Melvin: This fart's up to something -- he wouldn't have entered a tournament like this, unless he had the proverbial ace up his sleeve. So, I think I'll act first!

Melvin took a step back, with one side facing the Colonel, and pointed the left arm of his suit at him, bringing to attention what seemed to be a wrist blaster of sorts.

Melvin: Wrist Laser!

Powerful twin blue beams were emitted from the end of the robotic suit's wrist blaster towards the aging man, and in a swift motion, Melvin swing the suit's arm to his side in a path that would draw the laser directly through the Colonel's waist, cutting both him and his cane in half. It'd hurt. Definitely.

With as much agility as a man as old as Wellington could muster, he dove out of the way of the blue laser.

Upon dusting himself off, he aimed the dragon's head atop his cane at the robot, and with a flick of the wrist, a white beam of energy shot out on a collision course with the Melbot.

The young boy in his mechsuit swiveled to the side, raising the robot's left arm up to block the shot. A large cloud of dust swept up around him, clearing quickly to reveal a glowing, blue hexagonal shield. Lowering his arm, the shield faded away into nothingness with a crackle.

Melvin: I've got the feeling that there's a lot more in store with that cane. He's fast for a guy who should be drinking prune juice and watching Matlock reruns, too.

Reaching beside him, Melvin clamped a robotic hand down onto the bench mentioned earlier, and with a simple flick of his wrist, sent it flying at the Colonel.

Colonel Wellington ducked under the flying bench, and with a wheeze, returned to his full upright position.

He twisted his torso in a sort of semi circle, and several audible pops were heard from his back.

Wellington then took the cane with both hands, and raised it high above his head. With a woosh, he brought it down to the ground, where a shockwave was sent out, rippling towards the robot.

Melvin turned turned his head to the Colonel, just as one hell of a big white shockwave was heading for him.

Melvin: Well, that sucked.

With one loud electrical fizzling noise, the robotic suit was knocked back into the air. Acting on reflexes, Melvin planted the robot's left hand on the ground, followed by the right for balance, then pushed off into a badass flip and propelled himself back onto his feet.

Melvin: Let's try something different now.

Melvin broke off into a run towards Colonel Wellington, and squatted down in the suit while moving forward, then pushed off the ground, sending both him and a giant hunk of metal flying into the air. He pulled the left arm back, and shouted out another command into his voice module --

Melvin: Air Pressure Punch!

The leaves scattered in the wind behind his suit's left arm found themselves swirling in his direction, at impressive wind speeds. This pull quickly dropped, however, as Melvin descended towards the ground. He swung the suit around, the left fist heading straight for the ground -- and it made contact. The ground seemed to quiver with the initial contact of the left fist -- and then a loud, satifying bang erupted from the arm, a huge white cloud of steam gushing out, as huge cracks began forming in the ground, complete with accompanying ground tremors and giant-ass big pillars of rock shooting out of the ground everywhere, in all directions around the young boy.

Acting in a split second, Wellington found the only thing he could think of that might provide cover.

He didn't jump, he dove at the foot of an old oak tree, whose bird occupants had long since departed at the onset of the battle.

The Colonel watched in awe as cracks ran across the land, but stayed away from the old tree. The roots had established their position long ago, and held the ground together.

Wellington heard a faint whistling, like the shells back at the Somme. He looked to the skies, and saw pillars of rock hurtling down.

Col. Wellington: "Oh bloody hell."

The old Colonel raised his cane, and pointed the dragon's head to the sky. A solid mass of earth was hurtling straight towards the colonel, but with a slight flick of the wrist, a solid mass shot from the dragon, and froze the block in its place. Wellington held it there, until the others had all landed, and turned to the robot with it still floating.

With another flick of the wrists, he sent it flying at high speeds towards Melvin.

(Seriously? Holy Jesus. )

In a reflex action, Melvin turned to the oncoming rock, bringing the mecha's left arm up --

Melvin: Wrist Laser!

The laser cut straight into the rock, boring directly through solid bedrock. The giant chunk split into exactly two pieces in one clean cut, both pieces passing directly by Melvin. He slid his left leg back, entering a firm defensive position, and pointed the right arm at the old man huddling up against a tree.

Melvin: Rocket Punch!

Locks on the wrist detatched from the robotic suit's oversized fist, and with a flash of ret from behind it, the fist flew at the Colonel, spinning around rapidly as did so.

The Colonel's eye's went wide at the sight of the incoming fist. Out of a reflex more than anything, he brought his cane up, and the familar bright white energy formed a curved disc infront of him.

He was a little slow in bringing it out, and it caught the shield at the bottom, sending the fist flying into the ground at his feet.

Acting quickly, he morphed his shield into an odd looking blade, and bounded across the craked landscape to the robot.

With a woosh, he aimed a slice at the already handless right arm.

As the smoke from the flying fist's boosters cleared, a single, stumpy muzzle was revealed in the mecha's right wrist.

Melvin: Now, Colonel. Don't you know it's bad strategy to bring a knife to a gun fight?

Small yellow particles formed in the air, traveling to the mecha's right wrist, and inside the muzzle, filling the hole with a bright yellow energy. Melvin wheeled the robotic suit around, he pushed the arm towards the Colonel, who was flying through the air towards him, and had a much shorter reach than he did, pressing the wrist into his stomach, and invoking the name of an attack that would be a staple of his arsenal for years to come --

Melvin: Melvin Beam!

And just like that, at point-blank range, the energy stored in the cannon in the robot's wrist was discharged, emitting a generic freaking huge anime laser beam of death.

Zap entered the arena. He had been watching the fight from the coziness of the judges' booth (complete with water slides) and liked what he saw. He walked up to Melvin and gave him his victory.

Zap: Very nicely done. Both you and Toxic showed great skill, dexterity, and power. I was really looking forward to this fight, above all others, because in my opinion, the two fighters with the most style duked it out. Melvin, although you and Toxic were evenly matched, you came out with the win. Congratulations.
