The States went up to $350 million today to answer the "stingy" calls. Canada's given over $30 million but will match all donations made by Canadian citizens themselves to boot. Funny, I never saw India as adopting isolationism. |

Considering he have donated tons of money before, he probably already had. It seems like he is actually more caring than people think, at least when it comes to morals when living people are involved. Not markerting morals... So funny seeing the man who donated the most money in the world listed as evil.... |

I'm worried that this is becoming an ego-stroking contest by the big countries in the world. It's as if Japan's DARING anyone to match $500 million. Of course, your $10 or $20 given to charity is just as useful as half a BILLION dollars. |

The population in Sweden donated 333 millions SEK. That's around 50.1 millions of US dollars. And compare to the fact that there is nine million people in Sweden. Thought well, it's for charity. It's not a dickwaving contest on who can donate the most money... |

Or keep 30 people clean for a day. Or feed a bunch of people. Japan has the money, although not all of it might be cash - clothing, food, the like. But they can give that much cash, and there's nothing political about it. Now, ego-stroking... |

Given that the Conservative Party is the official opposition and Bloc Quebecois are being bastards on the subject, if Paul Martin were to try to put a bill in place that would divert more Canadian surplus money to that area he would probably be beaten down...And if it became a vote of confidence... <.< Not good at all.

Canada's up to $80m actually, although some of that might be matching donations made to authorized agencies. Denmark's been extremely generous on a per capita scale. |

Australia, although effected, has been the biggest hearted. I don't expect Russia to give too much. But it would be nice if every 1st world nation would toss 100 million at it. Plus food, etc.

Canada was affected too - at last count we have 150 people missing. I don't see a single donation from Russia when looking over the list... |

Only 9 Australian are dead with about 17 more still missing. Reading some of these posts does make this donating seem kinda like a contest... Who cares!? It all helps anyway! It would be pretty good if the countries would double everyone's donated money though. Even if some loonie did run screaming "A tsunami is coming!!!" I'm sure alot of people would've ran... Or even just looked a little closer. Then again, there could've been alot more deaths if it happened later in the day when all the tourists would've been on the beach. |

Soon they'll have more money than manpower and then they'll just build houses out of dollar bills Apparantly Sweden is setting aside about 74 million dollar for the tsunami. (Not including Population donations) Amazon has raised 3.5million, Gates foundation has raised 3million, And according to my sources, about 2 billion dollars is donated in total. And lastly, Japan is in the lead with their 500 million dollar aid. I dig this, sure, alot of people died and I of course feel sorry for them, but the fact that the whole world can just pour out money like nothing because of a disaster just rings nice. People still care about other people (edited by Jizuko on 01-03-05 08:51 AM) |

My god. First the US gets called stingy, then gets ragged on for doing too much. They can't win for losing. God I can't stand the UN. And yeah, they officially now have more money than they know what to do with. It's manpower that's the problem now. |

Well I kinda understand them. Who said they were in charge? And they didn't say that the US did too much, just that they are undermining the UN. Here's some fun stuff from CNN "U.N. officials have said it will cost billions of dollars over a period of years to rebuild the destroyed region. The World Bank, which has pledged $250 million, said Sunday it may triple that pledge later. Go Norway Edit2: I forgot, they got oil.
