I'm sure we've all been there. You sign up for a board, and need to contact an admin, but know nothing about them - who would be best suited to help, who never checks their messages, who's just plain an asshole (not a problem here - and no, I'm not sucking up - but a newbie wouldn't know that), etc. And for whatever reason, you can't post/register/etc, so you have to just pray that one of them has some contact info in their bio and will actually help.
In many cases, it would be much easier if there was a way to send a message to all the admins at once. The best way I can think of to do this is to create a forum for it, and a guest account. The guest account's password would be posted in a sticky in the forum, and it would be denied access to editlayout.php, editprofile.php and all that other fun stuff. Also, for security reasons, it would be restricted to posting in that forum and HTML/layouts would be disabled there (or if HTML could be filtered on a per-user basis, it could be allowed to post anywhere in plain text). Anyone who needs help would be able to just post there and ask.

For identification, IPs are stored with each post, right? If not, an encrypted version of the IP could be added to each guest post, making it possible to tell them apart without revealing the actual address.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is always how I assumed it worked when it comes to ip logging.

Alright, say I'm logged into my account from my computer here at home. I make posts, threads, etc...
My ip is obviously displayed on all of them for the admins to see.

But what if I log on with another computer with a different isp? Does that isp now take the place of my old one on all the posts, threads, etc I've made or just new ones that I make when logged into the different computer?

It could, or it could be added in a new row/added onto the row. You could just use "WHERE `ip` LIKE '%whateverip%'" to select an ip from a bunch of IPs that a person coul dhave used.

I think there would be too many problems with that. Isnt this what the IRC Chat is for?

Yes, admins can already see the IP address of each post.

The latter is correct. IP addresses are stored with each post, and each user's most recent IP address is stored in the DB with thier profile. Also, most HTTP servers log each request, but AcmlmBoard provides to tool to access the logs. The logs have to be downloaded and searched, or the logs could be searched on the server from a shell prompt.

ipsearch.php can already do that.

Just for the record I think adding an entirely new place for a forum like this would be kind of wasteful, taking up space and such. Instead, I'd say a link to the forum under the Help / Suggestions forum description would work just as well.

But that's me. In the end it doesn't really matter, such a forum wouldn't concern me.
