just the zelda letter to gain access to death mountain, then you can get in.

EDIT: a two word response might have gotten me there first, now......

The FAQ must be incorrect. Three Keys, one left of the start, the other two are up the far right lift.

You wouldn't of got points Synneth, cos you're WRONG. Bzzt.

Feel free to track down the ROM and play it yourself, Kitten Yiffer, but there are definitely only three keys in Parapa Palace (Which is palace one).

FUN FACT: You actually don't need to collect ANY of the keys to get through the Palace, thanks to the fact that Fairy goes through doors and you can skip and Candle and still beat the game. Obviously, this is much easier to pull off in a New Game + game (As it is possible, but VERY difficult, to get through Death Mountain in the dark in an ordinary New Game file).

I'm guessing that the Hyrule Shield got you access to Death Mountain, because I think I remember a guard at the gate making a fuss about the rocks and fire...

...you forgot about the key when you beat the boss Fyxe. When you beat a boss a key falls down from the celing and then you open a door. Behind the door is the statue thing where Link attaches an crystal.

So that dungeon have four keys. I just even played Zelda II. (the first dungeon is not hard) to check that.

You need the slingshot, zelda's letter, deku sticks, the fairy ocarina, and I think that's all of them.

Tamias, I don't believe you explicitly need the shield, heh. He just says it'll be very useful, I think...

EDIT: Eh, um... Kitten Yiffer, that Key doesn't count because everyone except you forgot about it and you guessed incorrectly anyway. >.>

Poor misguided fools. You're not gonna get it, are you? It was, in fact, a bit of a trick question.

You need no items to reach Goron City. Just head up into the Lost Woods, right, left, through the doorway and you're there!! Admittedly, you won't be able to get past the rocks to actually see the whole place, but you are, technically, in Goron City.

Score:
~~~~~
NSNick - 3 Rupees
Synneth Relmn - 2 Rupees
Emptyeye - 2 Rupees
Kitten Yiffer - 1 Rupee
Kyouji Craw - 1 Rupee
9 - I shall leave you all with one final question for today. This is one that is potentially worth alot of points, although you will not get it. However, the person who gets closest will get two Rupees, and the person who gets the exact answer (pfft) will get a Blue Rupee, worth five Rupees, you lucky sod.
How many individual monsters are there in the Light World of ALttP? This includes bosses, creatures inside caves and dungeons, different colour varieties and different weapons (in the case of the soldiers).
As tempting as it is, Cuccos don't count. Also, Zoras that walk on land are Zoras, don't pretend they are anything else.
Fyxe... The goron city for the first time thing doesn't play if you enter that way, therefore it is not enterring goron city.
Do you mean individual monsters or individual types of monsters?
573 if individual monsters, 112 if types.
I'm guessing that there are about 34 enemies in the Light World, from counting from whatever I could remember seeing different. I know I'm not exact, but I feeling it's a nice estimate.
Potayto, potahto. Whether the opening thing happens or not, you're still in Goron City, like it or not. Sorry. ^-^ Besides, nobody actually answered correctly the other way. If you want to talk about the other way, you need the Kokiri Sword, Deku Shield, Deku Sticks, Fairy Slingshot, Fairy Ocarina (well, no choice with that) then Zelda's Letter. EDIT: The Kokiri Emerald too if you want to be really overly accurate.
And I don't mean individual monsters, although how you guessed it was 573 individual monsters confuses me to no end. I just mean different types. And I'm not telling the answer until tomorrow, anyway.
Random guess, since I've only played up to the first dungeon in AoL as to help somebody. I'll say that they're 4 keys.
Tamias did have the correct amount.
Besides, Check out the badly done map "Palace 1: Parapa Palace Map (GIF)". There is four keys...
46 monsters, just an guess.
Not true. I've gotten to Goron City with just Deku Sticks, the Fairy Ocarina, and Zelda's Letter. Just takes a little trick with the cartridge.
Edit: I might have had the Slingshot, too. It's been a while.
A little game damaging trick with the cartridge....
Blue, Red, Green soldiers, crows, bush monsters, theives, bees, crabs, octorocks, octoballoon, little octoballoon, zoras, stalfos, red stalfos, yellow stalfos, armos knights, squiggly thingies, beamos, leevers, other leevers, sandtrap monsters, blue sandtrap monsters, those fire breathing thingies, red spear throwing soldiers, hyrule castle weakass soldiers, blue stabyou soldiers, ball and chain trooper, gold same, rats, snakes, keese, tekitites, red ones, those things that turn to stone on you, kill you in town soldiers, lanmolas, moldorms, come to life soldiers in the eastern palace area, flying tiles, rocklops, red rocklops, those round things that bounce when you hit them, the red ones that are damn near impossible to kill with a sword, moles (if those count as enemies), those weird mirror moving monsters that are supposed to be in the dark world but appear in the light world for the last heart piece, red of same, agahnim, and that is ALL that I can remember, and considering the last time I played this game was five years ago, that's not too bad.
All in all, that's 47. So I'm wrong if moles aren't counted. But you can hit them with a weapon, so I count them. If not, 46.
48. Forty eight. Forgot one type. The flying eyeball things that are in hyrule castle tower.
Dude, with the crooked cartdrigde glitch you can get to Goron city the other way around with no items at all.
I never tried that glitch, since I was too careful about my stuff. But then, since i'm not playing much on my N64 anymore and since I use the Gamecube Bonus discs to play Ocarina of time... I should maybe try. >.>
Kitten Yiffer, it was still a wild guess, I myself forgot about the Key when you beat Horsehead so that one doesn't count, ok? It's not even in the official guide, so...
Now, lets see...
Normal Dartnuts, Green and Blue Darknuts with swords, Green and Red Darknuts with spears, Green and Blue Darknuts with bows, Red Darknuts throwing spears... That's eight..
Blue Troopers with swords, Red Troopers throwing spears and Bombs, and two varieties of Ball and Chain Troopers. That's 5.
Octoroks, Octoballoons and Mini Octoroks, Red and Blue Tektites, Zoras, Armos, Geldmen, Buzz Blobs and Cukemen, Sand Crabs, Crows, Hoarders, Zoras, the vultures, the jumping hare, Bees and the Golden Bee, 'Deadrocks' on Death Mountain... That's 19...
Rats, Ropes and Keese, 'Popos' (the tentacles), Blue, Red and Grey Stalfos, Green and Red Rocklops, Bubbles, Green and Purple Leevers, Blue and Red 'Debirandos', Beamos, Mini Moldorms, Kodondos, and Blue and Red Hardhat Beetles... That's 19.
Blue Bari and Green Goriyas (the mimic creatures) in Death Mountain... Two more.
The 'Chasupa' in Hyrule Castle Tower.
Armos Knights, Lanmolas, Moldorm and Agahnim.
58 in all. Not including the 'Moles' or the two different coloured Beamos (some have blue eyes, some have brown, but they all act the same). Also not counting any traps like flying tiles and falling rocks. ALSO not counting Thieves simply because they don't hurt you and you can't kill them, although you could count them as enemies if you want.
Grey gets two Rupees for getting closest.
Since I figured that Nabooru wouldn't be as important to the storyline as she was in the Ocarina of Time, I think that Termina wouldn't have an alternative for her.
Tamias finally gets a Rupee. Yes, there is no alternate for Nabooru. Aveil, the leader of the Gerudo Pirates is actually an alternate of the Gerudo that gave you the Membership Card in the first game.
The alternate for the Carpenter's Son keeps Cuccos at the ranch.
