Well, Ziffski, I'd say that the odds of at least one of the DS ones being good are better than the odds of the PSP one being good. Plus, if you like Final Fantasy 3, you're basically almost already guarenteed to like the DS version, and I also don't think it'll be too easy for Square to mess up the Seiken Densetsu game all that much. Just my thoughts, though, so meh.

You buy a system not only because its "cool" but because it has good games. You buy an XBox for Halo 2 a Gamecube for RE4 a PS2 for GTA

...No you don't. If anything, you buy a system based on its features, capabilities and its franchises. I would never purchase a system based on one solitary game that I may or may not like.

I did. And I'm happy with my choice.

*hugs X-Box and Halo*

Now I get GREAT games.

Metal Slug, Guilty Gear, MK, Soul Calibur, Shenmue, Elder Scrolls, etc.

I am a happy man.

But there you go, you ended up buying several good games for the system. If someone buys the system with their main focus being on one game and nothing else...

Ok!

Since Final Fantasy III was the best RPG for NES by far (I've played it) that would surely be great buy for the DS.

While it was cool, I myself consider FFII story to be superior.

That might change with an official translation... but meh.

As far as the PSP or the DS goes. Right now I'm not planning on buying either of them. Just really nothing I'm too "OMG I have to have that game" coming to me. Right now I'm sticking with my SP and it's classic side-scrolling, 2D games.

I base it on the games...not game, but games. If the PC did not have KOTOR on the PC, then I might get an Xbox...this is the only way I would by a system, based off of one game alone. Well, in this case, it is two...anyway...

A guy came into the store today who had gotten a PSP from Japan for $300. And he let me see it and play Ridge Racer on it.

Holy shit.

The graphics are not that of a PsX, but more like Ps2 mixed in with some XBox, no lie. It looked like I could actually touch the car, it looked so real.

He told me that he has had no problems with his PSP.

And the screen is so much bigger than I thought it was orginally, and the whole thing about the disc poping out...it's only if you bend it. And the disc is protected, so when it goes in and out of the PSP, the chances or messing it up, seem pretty small, unless you wanna be careless with it.

I wasn't sure about getting one, but now, I really want one.

The graphics aren't supposed to be THAT powerful. My guess is that the smaller screen probably creates the illusion that the graphics are on that level - you'd definitely notice irregularities on the big screen, like any handheld game.

I have a PSP: I got it off of eBay for $180 not including shipping. I also got a copy of Ridge Racers, and to be quite frank, the thing kicks so much ass! Most of the game is in English... basically all the dialogue. The in-game looks like an american game because of the total lack of foreign characters! The narrator/announcer sounds like a white guy trying to act "black"- kind of like Eminem.... The game lets you play your MP4's on the memory stick while racing! The PSP's firmware is also upgradable via Wireless Access Point. Sony plans to implement e-mail, instant messaging, and internet browsing in their next firmware update. And, to follow up on the hardware, as posted from TEK and OCRemix:

Here was my input...

I'm not flaming anyone, but it just seems to me like that because the PS2 hardware was crappy, people look for reasons to knock the PSP. I have one myself and its great! No problems whatsoever with it, and to be honest, I am a Nintendo fanboy, and I enjoy the PSP a lot. I was skeptical at first, but once I got it, I have been playing it for a week straight. The square button is fine, no dead pixels, I get 6 hours playing Ridge Racers, and who the hell is dumb enough to "twist" their PSP so the UMD bay opens? If that happens, then you certianly aren't taking care of your systems if you have to twist it. If you do twist it, somwthing is bound to break. Its just common sense.

I wish people would just give the damn thing a chance. I had to return my DS twice: Once for a battery problem (wasn't charging) and the second time, THREE dead pixels, all on the touch screen. All within a week's time.

As I said:

1) Square Button works
2) "Satisfactory" battery life
3) No dead pixels
4) Whats with the goddamn twisting? Why in the f*ck would you want to do that?

One person had 19 dead pixels on their PSP. Isolated case, sure, but geez. Talk about bad luck.

I'm more surprised at the fact you managed to get it for $180.

And the argument about the Square button wasn't that it didn't work, but that it is less responsive than the other buttons on the unit due to its positioning.

PSP for $180? Proof please.

I bought my DS because I looked at the specs and its looks and decided it kicks ass. I only have SM64DS right now, because there arent that many games yet, but its going online in March, so it will be even better.

Actually, I heard that the launch price might be around $185. And it is rare to get a good price on e-bay, you just gotta time it right.

Now that I've played both (PSP and DS), I like the PSP so much more. And the lack of games that DS had at launch, and that a lot of its games that were set to come out in March, are being pushed back...not good. If I was Nintendo, I would lower the DS price when the PSP launches.

And the demand for the DS has gone down since the holidays. We know have heaps in the back that no one wants to buy. I wonder if the PSP will follow suit, with a few months after its launch.

I read somewhere that the PSP would sell for 250 here. It would come with a memory stick, some demos, carrying case with screen cleaner, and a copy of Spider Man 2 (movie). I really dont want any of that. Give me just the system for 180 and ill be happy.

I don't think you can buy the system for a flat price, at least right off the bat. I think you have to get it with all the extras, sadly...

Ok!

As for the declining demand, that will always happen. First of all because "early-adaptors" want the system right away when it's releases, second because it's just after the holiday season, so demand is always lower, not many games are released for any system these days anyway.

You can buy the system by itself when it comes out on Feb 24th. You don't have to buy the bundle pack.

And I made a bad typo, I like the PSP, not the DS. I'm just so used to saying DS (since like Dec) so now I have to get used to saying PSP.

Ok!

And you made some other fault(s), it's released on March 24th (not Feb) and as far as my knowledge goes there won't be a flat package since Sony already has a hard time producing enough units at all. That's why the European launch has been postponed...
