The battery life depends on what game you are playing. The higher graphic games will, of course, take up a lot more power, like the RPGs and the likes.

I saw an article about discs flying out of the PSP and there is a certain way you should hold it.

I heard that the button closest to the screen is less responsive and is prone to be broken I heard, that's a slight concern I have. If a button breaks easily... besides Sony isn't know for their durability. At least not with PS2.

How long is the loading times on the games anyway? I grow up with games without any loading times, PS was a shock for me. It was first time I even did see loading times ever that annoyed me.

And yes, PSP would be awesome for throwing ninja disc stars with. xP

Why the hell is it $249? Even in Japan where everything costs too much, it's lower than that. I just... Can't... Fathom the decision.

I kept thinking the $200 + price tag was going to drop or be just a bad rumor. I'm kind of dissapointed that it turned out to be true. I also keep hearing people say that people shouldn't judge the system without getting their hands on it, and not say anything about it untill they do. The bloated price tag is basically what's going to keep it *out* of the hands of many, unfortunately.

Scratchable media for a handheld unit....what a terrible idea.
Sony really had a chance to break into the portable gaming market and steal some of Nintendo's thunder, but that went right out the window.
Like many, I wonder what this thing is going to compete against ultimately...
Gameboy? Ipod? Video-NOW? *snicker*

I know the Video-NOW joke was a pretty low blow, but it's all I can help but compare it too at the moment...heh heh....

OUCH. Watch it with the claws.

Kitten Yiffer: Yeah, the Square button. And the funny thing is that Sony's basically telling users to "get used to it". Tremendous PR.

I'm going to toss a wild prediction out there... Sony's not going to sell all its North American stock on day 1. (Not saying the first shipment won't sell out, but that it doesn't on launch day.)

Oh, the loading times exist on the first batch of Japanese games.

However, don't forget that loading times will decrease once developers figure out ways to do so.

What tells you they will be able to do so? They weren't able (in my opinion) with the PS2, so I don't think they'll be able with the PSP.

Well, yes. But the hardware is still a limit.

I don't know about PS2, but I know it's possible to have optical based games yet fast loading time. Gamecube throws this succefully, with the expaction of The sims. Which is a multi-console game... so i'm not expecting that much anyway.

It would be intresting if they could somewhat limit the loading time, but the cartdridge format is still beating it.

I believe I read that they managed to do it with the PSX (taking the first batch of games compared to others that were released) so... It's probably another thing the developers, not Sony, have to worry about.

Heard from a person who heard from a person who has the PSP, there is a recall on a lot of them, because they are falling apart.

And now, from an e-mail that we got in from work about the value pack that is set to be $249.99 and set to come out on the 24th.

The pack has:

*32 MB memory stick
*headphones with remote
*video/music/movie sampler
*battery pack
*AC adaptor
*soft case
*cleaning cloth
*Spider-Man 2 the movie (only in the first million packs)

Was there an official recall? I heard what Colleen did, that the Square buttons were "Defective" and Sony basically said "tough" (Which if you ask me is even worse than denying the problem in the first place). Evidently, the development teams of GTA3 and VC now work for Sony proper.

(Get it? Eh? Because both game had crippling bugs and Rockstar's attitude was "fuck the fans, we're not fixing them"? Huh? Huh?)

Yeah, I'll be quiet now.

From what I heard, there is no official recall, and I guess we'll figure that out once we launch the PSP.

Its like the rumor that there is a recall on Ps2's. That hasn't happened yet, offically.

It's not so much that they're defective, but Sony came up with an excuse along the lines of it being necessary to have the Square button function like that due to the insides of the machine, and there wasn't a way around it.

I call bull.

Here's a link to the discussion where Sony tells manufacturers and the public to "get used to it".

How embarrasing for Sony...

My favorite part..

-------------------------------
But that's no consolation for the past and future PSP owners who could suffer from a sticky Square button. Kutaragi-san seems poetically unperturbed: "I believe we have made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint on the grounds that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that."
-------------------------------

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

"It's the same as that."

O_o

No, it's not. The position of a gate is not the same thing as the misalignment of a button on a controller.

Ok!

Another problem with PSP buyers is that they couldn't change their defective PSP with a new one since Sony can't produce enough of them. The only solution is sending it to Sony (at some costs) and getting it back after a few weeks.

The European launch has been postponed too because of the production problems of the PSP. I still think Sony was a little surprised Nintendo suddenly came with the DS, they had just expected Nintendo to come up with the new Gameboy in 2007...

I think the DS was kept under the hoods for awhile, althought the rumour mill was going around quite alot before E3. The DS wasn't a full surprise at E3 due to the rumours but it didn't took long from rumour to reality. So it did happen quick in that way yes...

I think that there could have been a way around that, but they would have to redo the design. And they also blamed it on not wanting to make it wider.

I think the problem was that Sony couldn't compete with the DS out of the gate in Japan; even though they sold out their initial shipment of PSP's, they should have had more ready to go. No excuse for that.

Even though DS software sales aren't that great, the system itself's flown off shelves. I think Nintendo's happy with their advantage going into March.
