...now here is my debate about these game systems.

First off, the PS2 and the XBox can play DVDs, right? Now, why on earth would you buy a gaming system? To play games. See, you are spending more money for something you already have at home probably. The Gamecube does not have a DVD player but it is cheaper. So... you are pretty much paying for a DVD player also.

The PSP will have this same effect, too. You will pay more for discs (as discs cost more than cartridges... I think), a MP3 player, and a movie player. Meanwhile the DS, you are only paying for a gaming system.

But also, it goes for preference... if you like the DS or PSP, you like it. If you don't you don't. There will always be people not agreeing with you (I am sure people are not agreeing with me right now...). Don't get angry over a stupid opinion because it isn't fact, just opinion.

Why do you think people liked the PSP before they even saw a PSP? Same goes for the DS; a lot of this is just people being superficial towards brandnames.

I mean, weren't we just talking about the PS vs. N64?
Well, that's relevant due to the systems' graphical equivalence and remakes/spinoffs from both systems being done.

Leg; you can't make this look like I'm a dumbass. Sorry, black and white no lie .

Well, oh, now I get what you mean . Some PS games *could* be ported over to the DS easily, although I'm not sure if that'll be happening. If Nintendo stops remaking all of these titles and actually makes sequels to them (Like a new Super Smash) they'll do great.

You can say that I am going towards the PSP because of the brandname if you want, but the way that I see it, is that Sony has the games that I like on their systems. Nintendo does not (save for Sonic, but that's on PS2 now) and for the Xbox there's only maybe two games that I want (both of which coming to the PC). We have this debate at work as to which is better (Ps2 v Xbox) and in reality, its all about personal preference. When I heard about the DS, I wasn't that intrested because, as said before, Nintendo doesn't make the games that I enjoy and when I heard about the PSP, I knew that it would have the games that I like on that handheld. Now, the fact still remains, that I'm not even sure if I'm going to get the PSP or not yet.

This reminds me a bit when Gameboy first game out. It was when I was sick of Nintendo and I was playing on the Sega consoles. So when I heard about GameGear, I wanted that, solely for the Sonic games that I could play on that handheld. Why? Because at the time, Sega had the games that I both wanted and like, and now the same goes today with the Sony/Playstation brand.

And now, just a real fast run down of the games for the PSP that are said to come out, one way or another (cause for whatever reason, a bunch of DS games comes out in March, and I hope the delay won't be the same for t he PSP).

* That FF7 spin-off game that was mentioned before
* FF7:AC (even though I will be getting the DVD anyway)
* Metal Gear Acid
* Ridge Racer
* Vampire Chronicle, The Chaos Tower (with all your fave Darkstalkers chars)
* Coded Arms
* Lumines
* Death Jr.
* Devil May Cry
* Grand Turismo 4 (this smells delay all over it!)
* NBA Street
* NFL Street
* NHL Face Off 2005
* Spider-Man 2
* Syphon Filter, Logan's Shadow
* Tony Hawk's Underground 2
* Twisted Metal World Tour
* Viewtiful Joe
* Whipe Out Pure
* Ape Escape
* Tales of Eternia (aka Tales of Destiny II)
* Dynasty Warriors
* Hot Shots Golf
* Need for Speed Underground, Rivals
* Ghost in the Shell, Stand Alone Complex

But now, this makes me wonder, the PSP is Sony, but where are the other Final Fantasy titles? Now, the DS will be getting the Crystal Chronicles, as well as Final Fantasy III. Now, wouldn't it be nice to get those on the PSP as well? And maybe a Crono Trigger/Cross spin-off that we've all been dying to see (at least on console, but now I'll take it any way I can get it).

All of these titles? Why is everyone acting like Nintendo is porting over every game possible? DS isn't going to be a port system. The only thing close to a port as of now is Super Mario 64 DS, and they simply did this so they could have a sure-hit game helping to get those initial batch of Nintendo DS's off the shelves. I honestly don't think they are going to pull a Super Mario Advance with this one. Expect to see more unique titles as time goes by. Oh, and don't expect another Super Smash Bros. game. I'll be really surprised if they do come out with one any time soon. Masahiro Sakurai freaking quit because all of the pressure put on the poor guy to make a sequal right after he had finished "Melee". Even if they did come out with another Super Smash Bros., it just won't have his magic touch that makes all HAL and Kirby games he is associated with so wonderful. (I am however, starting to see that specific Sakurai "touch" in the other games he is being involved with, like Meteos for instance.)

My favorite Nintendo DS title right now is Daigasso Band Brothers (to be called Jam With The Band in the US when released next year) because it's an excellent music game that I can play on the go. I've always wanted that, but nothing really ever satiated that desire. It's just what I needed.

Regardless or not if you like the Nintendo DS as a console, you can't deny the fact that some realy great games are coming out for it... and imagine the great games that haven't been announced yet. Tecmo's Tomonobu Itagaki, claims he wishes to work on games for Nintendo DS, stating that the system would be far better to produce for than the PSP. He invisioned a game with a premise similar to Dead Or Alive: Beach Volleyball, but the touch screen is used to interact with and touch the girls. Koji Igarashi, would like to make a Castlevania game similar to Castlevania: Aria Of Sorrow on the GBA, but utilize the touch screen. Toshihiro Nagoshi, of Sega, was asked by Nintendo if he would like to develop a version of Super Monkey Ball for the NDS, to which he replied he definitely has an interest in making such a game. Not to mention Square Enix's new buddy up with Nintendo, and all of the new Final Fantasy games slated to be on the Nintendo DS. Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles DS, and more possible if you look at the survey packaged with the Japanese Final Fantasy 1&2: Dawn of Souls on the GameBoy Advance. And who knows, with any creative new Final Fantasy games... maybe even Kingdom Hearts. Yasumi Matsuno, (Final Fantasy XII) says that the touch screen of the Nintendo DS has much potential for various game types.

As far as the PSP goes... Uh... I guess I like Lumines.

im definently buying one, mainly because of the games ive seen..and because battery life doesnt really matter, because as long as I can have it plugged in while playing, I dont really care about playing it somewhere without a plugin..and besides, the DS, im just playing it right now in my room, and its usually plugged in, so I dont see a huge problem.

Of course PSX sold more games. PSX has more games.
The problem with PSP is that Sony has to design a disc-based system, with all of this stuff they promised such as MP3s and movies, into a very small case. They then have to make it durable, make the battery last a good while, and make it not slice peoples' heads off with flying discs (although that would be kinda cool, there are some legal issues), and they have to make up some sort of anti-piracy system which they seem to suck at. And the worst is that the final price has to rival that of Nintendo's which is just a game system (therefore no spending money on MP3 and DVD implementations), uses cartridges/cards (so no disc mechanism, better battery life, zero load time, smaller case, more durability, harder to pirate, and less decapitations), and has the awesome durability and low of any Nintendo product. So more than likely they're going to have to either have an especially high price, or use cheap parts.

Yes, but Sony can well afford to set a low price on PSP, eat the extra cost (like Microsoft is doing now), and gain a hold on the handheld market. Come next generation, they'll already have renown, so it won't be nearly as hard.

Not quite that simple, because my understanding is that ALL companies do this (Eat the extra cost of hardware and make the cost up on software sales). So they're probably already eating these costs with whatever price point they set; it's not practical to say "They can lower the price more than they ordinarily would".

Incidentally, this is mainly why the 3DO was outrageously priced back in the day--they tried to buck this model by licensing the hardware production out to various companies. The problem, obviously, was these companies couldn't make back costs off of the software, so they had to set a price point such that they wouldn't lose massive amounts of money per console (Somewhere around $700).

At first this thread came out to be just annoying ... it's gotten better..

Looking at the PSP as a stand-alone system, and in a non-comparitive matter, I think it looks good. I like it's slick looks, and I think the controller layout is fine. But I will admit only a slew of some games are even an interest to me at the moment. A few that Anya mentioned, but she forgot Tales of Enternia. (which is announced to be a remake of Tales of Destiny II for the PSX).

But in the end I do think the PSP has it's flaws. Unless it's got a good protector of some sort, I wouldn't be surprised if games froze / skipped because of them being discs for a handheld.

The battery life sounds pretty crappy.

I could careless for UMD's altogether.

A good mp3 player can be bought and probably last longer than the PSP would.

So in short, the PSP looks fine, but I don't think it'll hold up for long.

Notice I didn't come into the thread and say "The DS is going to blow this thing away!"

Well, I didn't mean it like that; I meant they shouldn't take "the path of remakes", and they'll be fine.

The only remakes planned/out so far rock (SM64DS and Goldeneye (as long as they keep Goldeneye the same ).

the touch screen is used to interact with and touch the girls.

Are you sure that Goldeneye game wasn't that wierd Rogue agent one?

The PSP is fine, althought the DS intrests me more with it's game and features somehow. None of the PSP games intrests me, since i'm really not that into Final fantasy first off. And i'm not really intrested to see movies or listen on music, since i'm not that a big fan of music/movies.

If the battery time is around three hours, heh... it's not gonna be the handheld I would use on long travels. I don't do thoose very often, but I tend to take my GBA SP out whenever i'm going somewhere.

I probably wouldn't get both until the price lowers... yeah, I'm cheap. But if I had the money, I'd probably get the PSP. I'm thinking (though I'm probably not right ) that there could be more games for the PSP because you don't have to buy the cartridge rights from Nintendo...
But, I would get the DS for any new Zelda games coming out... maybe I'll just borrow a friend's DS
