Jeebus, people. Didn't your mothers ever tell you, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all? Liz, you're beautiful. Don't let the bastards run you down. Fuck McD's. I'd suggest reporting the interviewer to head office in a letter or something, but otherwise, forget them. They wouldn't hire me, either. (I'm gonna go write an angry letter to them, too... What city/branch was it? Did you get her name?) As for the interviewing process; I don't know if our laws are the same as yours, but here, you don't have to put your SSN on an application. So, don't at first. When you're in the interview, out yourself. Tell them straight up, "my IDs don't match because I'm transgendered". It's fucking hard to do the first time, but it gets easier and easier. Just keep in mind (despite the McD's bitch) that 95% of professionals don't really care, so long as you give them a straight up and truthful answer. Try looking up the YMCA. They've almost always got either or both of a job-finding program, or a youth shelter. In any case, it's worth looking into. As for religious shelters, not all require ID. As for the ones that do, though, try to find a Unitarian or Anglican church, they're way better for that sort of thing than say, Catholic or Presbytarian. Best luck in your endeavours. I know you of all people can do it, just hang in there. |

Originally posted by Bit-Blade Well there is no protection from gender identity. So discrimination against transsexuals is actually legal. As for my picture... I can get my eyebrows waxed... but I'm broke so I can't afford that right now. That would fix everything up with that. Though what do you mean by "You kind of look like a steve"? Shards, in the US most jobs require you to put the SSN on an application. It is the way to prove that you are a US citizen. And everytime I tell someone that I'm transgendered in a job interview, they freak out. Maybe I'm in a bad area... |

Maybe people are total ASSES. 'Your kind'...Yea, thinking back on that, that is really annoying, I would've gotten up and said something even if I was just sitting there eating and I heard that... "Jeebus, people. Didn't your mothers ever tell you, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all?" Um...That rule's good, but stupid, too. All depends on the context. If you have something that's not nice to say, but really should be said, do it. In this case, I have something not nice to say. People, as a whole, are really assholes at times. Now that wasn't nice. But 1.) it's true, and 2.) it needs to be said. Ok, well, maybe not NEEDS, but...You get the idea... I haven't seen your pic yet, but I'll remember to when I have time...If you want, I'll be honest and sincere- as is my policy, be things good or bad. Honesty is my policy. Anyway, there's not much else I can say at this point, except good luck. And we're here for you. |

*reads just the thread title* I'll just say this; there IS no such as thing as 'no job'; there's ALWAYS work to be found. Saying 'there is no work' or 'there are no jobs' doesn't mean there are no jobs, it means you're way too picky and you think you can only get your dreamjob. Well sweatheart, life isn't about fun, ammusement, and earning money with a dreamjob . Work is work, most work is not pleasant, but unfortunately for you you'll have to do it if you want to have some money. |

SERIOUSLY, I'm gonna turn caps lock off for a moment, even though today is caps lock day and all, but assuming you're living legally in the country you're living in, there should be some kind of governement instance that suposedly helps you find a job. Or temporary agencies? I know how hard it is to find work, but don't be picky, you can always kep on looking for a better job while having a crappy one, or get some evening school at the same time to get your ass into a fine job. Depending on where you stand in life: nothing's for free, and even going through shit won't help you get anywhere at most times |

Yea, no kidding...' Anyway, yes, there are always jobs to be found. You just have to look in the right places... McDonalds doesn't deserve you anyway. Now BURGER KING, THAT'S where to go! Kidding, kidding...(But BK's better, so nyeah.) And they're right- you have to be able to get support from SOMEWHERE. And another thing (that I believe someone else already said) if you're still in the pits, and things aren't getting better...Why do you still have a computer and the internet?! I mean, I guess if it's one of the few things you've got... Well, I'm sure you'll manage. You'll find a way, we all do. OH! I did see that picture of you, and yea, you're right... I wouldn't be able to tell myself, to be honest. (edited by Destiny Smasher on 03-31-04 04:31 PM) (edited by Destiny Smasher on 03-31-04 04:32 PM) |
