Literally. Froze solid. Short story long, my cable cut out for a few hours; when I called them up they said the equipment had literally froze up from the cold. (30 below, or -22 in your crazy American system. ) How many can say that's happened to them?

Uh, unless there's actual ice, a temp that cold couldn't do anything .

Wow... I wonder what equipment actually froze for that to happen (and if it was damaged....likely it was). Sounds like they're not prepared for the harsh weather ;;

Well, equipment around here never freezes unless we actually put it in the freezer. It's unusual for us to get minus temperatures at all here....

I can't imagine Austrailia ever being cold

Stuff like cables never freeze in Seattle. It's rare it ever goes below freezing.

You guys have never been to Sudbury. During the winter it is like taking your balls, and then putting them on ice, and then making a hammer out of more ice and trying to smash the ice through your balls. It is that cold there.

Go to Northern Alberta in Winter. They'd all be laying back in lawn chairs enjoying the heat at -30.

Pseudo-random fun fact: -40

"The internet? That thing still around?" (Homer)

Here it's always around zero celsius, so nothing like that happens. However just 100 KM north it snows alot and power outages are common in the forests. I remember being in a cottage during a Power shortage. (the power grid freezes )

Power shortage in the middle of the forest is... a intresting experince. We had a oven so the cold weather wasn't a problem.

Last night I got to drive all over Cleveland while it snowed like a bitch. Grrr.

Also, it was apparantly -10 wind chill, but that doesn't really matter for driving.

I hate winter.

Bah, if you have the proper accessories for your tires, driving through snow doesn't hurt you at all. Now, driving through ice... *shudders* That's just a recipe for disaster.

Yes, it certainly is. I used to live out in the woods. The power'd go out at night and you couldn't see an inch from your nose. Hell, once we had a hurricane and the power was out for a week. Had to throw out any perishable items, and buy a lot of propane for lamps because candles weren't bright enough. Lucky we had a wood stove so heating wasn't a problem. (The biggest problem was the electric water pump. Had to buy bottled water and manually empty the toilet, not fun! After that was done we built an outhouse so we wouldn't have to do it again. )

...and it's reasons like this that I'm glad I live in S. Nevada (where we're experiencing lovely 40F lows )

Even though our cable still goes out, but that's cause the wiring in this house sucks.

Fun is when it snows in Alaska and the power goes out because all the snow weighing down the lines snaps them.
