To reiterate. This is not necessarily an honour of distinction. Hitler won it the second time for creating a massive program of eugenics. And Stalin is a fucker who is worse than Hitler a dozen times over.

Yep, 1938 specifically (I actually did a report on Hitler's military tactics a few years back. He seemed mostly to win the award for the Munich Conference, during which Hitler convinced Great Britain, Italy and France to simply GIVE HIM part of Czechoslovakia under the promise that he would end aggression in Europe. Not seeing the pattern which had already emerged by then, the three nations agreed). Mr. and Mrs. Chiang Kai-Shek won it in '37.

Are there "better" people to give the award to than Dubya? Probably. But as was already mentioned several times, the Man of the Year award was never about doing good; it was and is about having an impact on the world.

Yeah, Great Britain, Italy and France gave Hitler some of Czechoslovakia to try to appease him... they hoped that if he got what he wanted, the aggression would stop.

It didn't, and I don't think anybody's ever tried appeasement again.

Weird, I didn't know Hitler won an award for that....

The Sudetenland is what that is called. He annexed that and some of the Rhinelands and Alces Lorraine due to the high German-speaking populace. Liberation as he called it. In reality it was libenstraum.

In Spain we call this "Hacer la pelota" (Do the ball?)... He didn't deserve it actually, but that will make him happy. Oh, wait: is it "person of the year" or "person who made de more horrible war of the year"?

It goes to whoever had the most impact on the world for the year, and that was definitely G.W. regardless of how negative the impact was...
