Peter Berg, director of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and THE RUNDOWN, has been snapped up by Paramount Pictures to direct a movie based on Tom Clancy's SPLINTER CELL video games. In addition to directing the military action picture, Berg is also co-writing the screenplay with John J. McLaughlin and one of the writers of the video games, J.T. Petty.

SPLINTER CELL has proven to be a popular stealth action game for its publisher, Ubi Soft. Released on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube, players take on the role of covert spy Sam Fisher as he infiltrates terrorist cells to keep the world safe from harm. An important part of the game is keeping your presence revealed while sneaking around inside enemy bases. Paramount has already said that it wants to include the game's stealth angle in the film.

Are they going to far with all these v'game to movie ideas? Watch, they'll make another Mario movie soon enough.

I'm sure Clancy will have input, so I doubt that this movie ends up blowing chunks. Probably average to good depending on casting and the input.

Splinter Cell makes sense for a movie adaptation at least, so it's not a huge shock.

Tom Clancy books, though having good ideas, are poorly written. Hence them making really good movies . I really liked Patriot Games. Yeah, I'm with Colleen, this couldn't be -too- horrible.

No...Splinter Cell has a plot that is semi-coherent, and applies to a somewhat real world. If anything, this will be a good videogame to movie jump.

Could be good. I can't say I've really seen anything in the games that would make a good movie.
But I guess it could be "another Tom Clancy movie"

If it has Sean Connery in it, I think it is safe.

Oh, George Clooney = Sam Fischer

I have yet to see a bad Sean Connery movie; I can only assume this'll be great.

George Clooney seems like he'd make the perfect Sam Fisher.

Yeah, mainly because Sam Fischer was based off of him.

Sean Connery would definitely make it an automatically awesome movie.

I wouldn't go as far to say Connery being in it is all that great, but yeah .

Connery reminds me of Tom Clancy though, so the "theme" will be right .
