DMA is on, ASPI is correctly installed. That's weird, though, since it's a new burner and (hopefully) it got installed properly.

First I'd recommend to try another burning software. My DVD writer (unlike CDs) doesn't write DVDs properly if I'm NOT using Nero 6, but in your case you just might try that with DeepBurner or burnatonce.

Be sure to uninstall all other burning software beforehand. If it fails, you can switch back to Nero 6 anyway. If that still doesn't work, check the firmware version. Some discs might not be recognized iff a very old version of firmware came preinstalled with the burner.

Note, that this contains risks (like if power falls of during the firmware flashing process -> drive gets damaged irreparably; so if you don't want to mess with that, don't do it or ask your local dealer you got the computer from (if it was a ready 'complete' PC)

well, basically, ive tried it a few ways, with nero, with windows media player, and the built in burning wizard...which none worked, it first happened with some mp3's, then some manga my brother was burning onto a cd for his friend, but nothing worked...ill try the other burning programs though...one weird thing was, is that we tried a test cd, and just used the built in wizard, and burnt 2 jpg files to a disc, and that worked without a problem...

About how far through the process does it get and how big a file are you burning? I had a CD player with a problem like that (would stop after a few minutes), turned out to be a jammed laser motor.

it only gets up a couple percent, in nero, 3 or 4 percent, and in windows media player it looks like it gets fninshed, on a couple songs, then it gives me an error, I just burnt 3 songs....which makes no sense...and I just tried 6, and it stopped at 2 percent on the first song..

What about reading, can you copy a big disc alright? You might also try another brand of CD. I generally use Memorex.
