Most likely he had an ER trip with Coricidin, which is a cough and cold medication that contains both DXM and chlorophinarine maleate, which is a antihistamine that at high dosages, acts as a depressant on your respiratory system. Pure dex medications are actually relatively harmless, as long as you know what you're doing when you take it, and don't do it too often (as it'll cause olney's lesions if you do it, say, every other day for a year). Used correctly, DXM is a powerful psychedelic that can immerse you in beautiful ambient environments.

I want something that makes my WORK a beautiful, ambient environment.

Beer just makes me want to take a nap under my desk. (Merry Christmas Eve Office Party, everybody!)

Eh, my thoughts on drugs are really fairly mixed and contradictory. On one hand, I don't want to tell anybody they shouldn't do something that they like. On the other, I look at people like my brother, who are fucking themselves over and making themselves sick, and I wish there was some way I could make them stop.

Never done anything more interesting than caffiene and alcohol, and neither one of those to excess. I've thought about trying stuff like weed, salvia, dex, mushrooms, or mescaline, but never really got around to it because of the simple fact that I wasn't interested enough actually buy the stuff. At this point I don't see myself ever bothering.

On the other hand, the War on Drugs is more than a waste of time and resources, it actually causes more harm than good. It amazes me that, given the history of prohibition, anybody with half a brain could think this was a good idea (Nixon=worst president ever). Any attempt to ban a substance with any level of popularity merely succeeds in driving the trade underground, thereby making the product more dangerous both to produce and consume, manufacturing criminals, enriching drug lords, ruining people's lives, wasting police and legal resources... and I could go on and on. Not to mention the general creepyness of the idea that you don't have a right to decide what goes into your own body. Wrong wrong wrong on so many levels.

I never will take any drugs, they only hurt your health and make you stupid by destroying your brain and you have less concetration, so no.
I only smoke and that's enough, but I can get some drugs, but I won't any.

you "only" smoke.... well, it -may- not kill a lot of brain cells.... but... it kills a whole lot of other cells.... so, good luck breathing in 10 years.....

oh and you might want to schedule cancer tests in a few years.... just to start checking.... better to find it early....

Edit:: Geogree, to break down your argument, I'm going to do what you do:

You are sitting at a computer frying out your eyeballs, THAT'S NOT HEALTHY!

Because a person that does something that isn't in your eyes good, doesn't mean it is BAD. As GenerationTerrorist put it. Smoking kills, known fact, lets move on. You know what smoking also does? Keep my grandma alive, because she has been smoking since she was 6 and she is 76 now. Add that up, she doesn't have lung cancer, but take her off and the dependancy will DESTROY her. My buddy was told by his DOCTOR to smoke to alleviate stress because he cannot take a lot of anti-depressant due to a fear of swallowing pills (silly as it may sound, that's the damned truth). Smoking is bad in your eyes. I enjoy the odd cigar. Are they healthy? Fuck no!

not really....

just because your grandmother didn't get cancer does not allow the conclusion that no one else will get it either by smoking for that long.....

Nope, but incidentally, you've not shown me proof that your argument is correct in any stance.

You simply go "OMG LOL BAD TOBACCO LOLOLOLOL" without really doing anything else.

Although usually you argue better than this, you're digging a hole and I'm filling it in.

On the contrary, there are several thousands of people like Ziff's grandmother that have such dependancies. And the fact that he brought that point up is a win for him.

see, smoking isn't really something that needs to be argued.... it's a pretty generally known knowledge that smoking is bad....

oh and cymoro.... the fact that is grandmother is so addicted to the substance doesn't make it good either.... instead of having money to spend elsewhere.... she HAS to smoke in order to survive.... that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense if smoking isn't bad

but, we don't have to argue that.... everyone already knows it

I just don't see how someone being that addicted to any substance could be a good thing....

overdependence on anything is unhealthy....

You don't see how being addicted to a substance could be a good thing because you don't know, or even desire to know, the effects of the substance. If you were in a state where you desired a burst of stress relief or relaxation, you might consider the situation differently, and the health risks a reasonable cost for the psychological plus. Its all Economics, man. What you might not see as a reasonable cost in exchange for something might be entirely acceptable for somebody else.

Geogree, did you know that marriage is one of the physiologically most harmful events in a man's life? In fact, it causes more internal damage than marijuana. And hey, like you said, if people want to mess up their lives. Refer to this:

Fun fact of the day: "In 1978, the federal government was forced to allow some patients access to medical marijuana after a "medical necessity" defense was recognized and the Investigational New Drug (IND) compassionate access program was created. The IND, which allowed some patients to receive medical marijuana from the government, was closed in 1992 after it was flooded by applications from AIDS patients. Today, eight surviving patients still receive medical marijuana from the federal government."

Hmmm, interesting. Even the federal government seems to tacitly acknowledge the value of medicinal marijuana. Fancy that.

you guys really enjoy dragging it back to one single drug.... marijuana....

I really don't have much of an argument against marijuana....

the only thing that I can really use that hasn't been beaten to death already is that marijuana is the most common gateway drug to other more dangerous drugs.... drugs that do have serious side effects

that's all

False. This has been a baldfaced lie that's been peddled for years. Alcohol is far more of a "gateway drug" (whatever that means) than marijuana is. You just don't hear about that because it happens to be a multibilliondollar industry. Oops.

But the whole "gateway drug" line is a meaningless canard anyway. It's a buzzword. The vast majority of people who try marijuana never go on to do harder drugs. Thankfully there are people engaged in, you know, actual scientific studies about this that have pretty much totally debunked it.
