No. Bad. Zelda is Action/Adventure. Unless you're talking about Zelda II, in which case, it'd be an Action RPG.

Except for the fact that it was released for the computer before it was released for the XBox.

What's wrong with SO2? It's one of my favorite RPGs too.

My other favorites are the usual FF6, 7, and Xenogears, and Wild Arms.

I figured I'd get countless flames from FF fanboys.

uh, what flames?

hrmm, I really liked Shadow Hearts. some of the FF

Chrono trigger isn't the best RPG in my opinion, althought it's an nice one. (but i'm tired on those Chrono trigger fans at Gamefaqs )

My favorite SNES RPG is Earthbound. Simply becuse it's so unusual style. Some hate it, some love it...

Word.

I also like Tales of Phantasia, Legend of Legaia, Final Fantasy VIII, Seiken Densetsu 3, and a few others that I'm forgetting.

Can Megaman Battle Network games count? They're RPGish.. I like those games.

Oh i tottaly forgot earthbound thanks for reminding me.Add that to the list
And about zelda well i think zelda is sort of Action/Adventure/Rpg.
The fact that you dont get experience, lvl up it doesnt mean it isnt a rpg.

What exactly defines an RPG, anyway? As in, what sets an RPG apart from, say, an adventure game?

Role playing game, an game which you play an role...

That would fit the most games then.

I would rather say, if it contians stats level and experince. Then it's an RPG.

In that case, you could say that Super Mario World is an RPG, because you play the role of Mario (or Luigi if you're the second player). But nobody calls SMW an RPG.

Sorry, but I believe Morrowind was primarily developed by Bethseda.

Colleen, Morrowind would be a "PC RPG" for the Xbox, which doesn't quite make sense

I prefer to call them "Open-ended RPGs".

I am aware, and FFT is Square. I meant to say that ANYTHING made by Bioware kick ass...I just got lazy and edited my post.

To add to this list, I'd have to say that I really do enjoy Xenosage and Xenogears, as well as Vagrant Story.

There's been plenty of ports of PC-style games. Wizardry and Might and Magic for the NES are two examples.

Open-ended, yeah... but for the novice player they might be too much since there's no linear path.

That is true, but it also allows the novice RPGer to get a grasp on the sheer scope of some games.

Well, I guess my fav TRUE RPG would be Dungeons and Dragons, still. My fav "modern-style" RPG is Final Fantasy VI, followed by (in no particular order) FF Tactics (which is a good strategy game too), Chrono Trigger, Seiken Densetsu 3 (that's NOT a pushover, wite, you should try it), and Everquest.

Oooooh! If we're talking about on-line RPGs, someone shoulda said

I'm totally digging (well, did) the RO...As well as the D2 (I say it counts, so it does).

Since we're counting FFT, I'm going to drag Ogre Battle (Tactics Ogre) into this. Because that game rocks.

Story and characterwise: FF 6 and 7
Gameplaywise: Grandia II, I just never got tired of playing. And Bahamut Lagoon; not yet finished though.
Atmosphere: Shadow Hearts, towards the end it scared the hell out of me. Its really creepy.

I have yet to find another Golden Sun fan around here....I only know about 1 other, IRL. I think the second game might have turned off anyone who really liked the series, as it didn't quite live up to the first one quite well...I'm still waiting for the third installment, unless they want to ignore the fact that it was supposed to be a trilogy though, it does look like it kinda just ended after The Lost Age...time will tell, I guess.
