Ligers and Tions are weird creatures. They are real, I think. Its just like a fancy breeding thing. You get one if the Lion is the mom, and you get the other if the Tiger is the mom.
I don't think this is Photoshoped.

Two animals in the same genus but not the same species have a baby. Wow.

Snika: Well duh. Existance of Ligers are fairly well-known. Also. Tions? I thought they couldn't exist due to the size difference.

Tigons do exist, though in fewer numbers than ligers, if my memory serves me correctly.

Both extremely rare and both infertile, with the exception of one case where a tigon bred with a tiger and created a ti-tigon.

And no, not the first liger known to man, just big publicity since the birth is rare. Sperm in one species of mammal usually doesn't survive or is not compatable with the egg of another, hence the big deal. Even so, when it does happen, the animals are usually infertile.

It is pretty interesting, when you think about it. But I won't get into that.

I've seen a Liger before, they do indeed exist and they're quite impressive animals. I saw one at a renaissance fair, ironically. They brought the liger out, and everyone was staring at her, and I almost didn't believe my eyes, since I had only heard about them, never actually seen one. But yeah, she looked a lot like that. However, a difference was that its stripes were a blonde color, almost like a tabby lion, or something. It was female, as well, so I couldn't really say she had a mane.

But at the same time, you could see similarities between tigers, like the jaw and muzzle shape, and the body was very muscular as well, much thicker and built better than a lion's. I'd like to see that again...

Welcome to the magical world of gr. 8 science, enjoy your stay.

Yeah, try doing a project on finding two animals that can cross breed like this...All they need is the same amount of chromosomes...Well, that is to make it possible, the probability of a SAFE creation of a creature is more or less chance. Dats and cabbits are good examples.

I just had to hop on this topic. Normally I visit the AcmlmBoard Programming area...

What's interesting is that despite the fact that ligers/tigons are mostly infertile, if you mated a fertile tigon with a tiger for that ti-tigon, you'd get a hulking beast that's compariable to the extinct American Lion. (Rougly around 1,000 pounds, I believe.) Annnnd it's fairly fertile with other ti-tigons. You can't do that with the other lion/tiger crossbreeds.

Think about it--there's some advocates about introducing a giant predator in the North Americas where there has been none since the Ice Ages, and they're fingering the ti-tigon as a choice canidate...

Ligers have been around for a while. I got to see one up close at an animal preserve I volunteered at in Tulsa, OK. When I was there, it was only 6 months old and already weighed over 600 lbs. The paws covered a grown man's torso and the head was enourmous. So I couldn't imagine how big it is now.

But it was cool seeing one up close, I was only 14 at the time but I remember it quite well.

I plan on making a half-human half-liger child to raise in New York city. He shall be named Bill Dantae Eduardo Simmons III, esq.

Speaking of, does anyone know any animals with the same number of chromosomes as humans? Because you could cross them!

Furries worldwide rejoice.

But really... it's probably sterile, right? That's my first question.

It's always interesting to consider hybrid species... how that works out, amazingly. I mean, you try putting the "programming" of two computer programs together, and you'll get nothing functional. Yet you can combine the genomes of two species and get a functional, healthy creature. I know that there are obviously limits to how different the creatures can be to have this work, but.. it's still cool.

I resent that comment.
