Hee hee, lynyrd skynyrd.

Okay, so despite what I said earlier, I got a DS. I'll start with this: it kicks ass. Then come the complaints. Just keep in mind that it kicks ass, because it does. But I do have complaints.

One - First Hunt seems to be nothing more than a mediocre FPS with a metroid theme to it, rather than anything like a metroid game. At least, that's how it seems in "training" mode and one-on-one. Maybe it's more interesting and engaging with more than two players, but bleh. Pfah. I hope they continue to make 2D metroid games. I would really like that. (I realize this isn't about the DS itself, but whatever.)

Two - my touch screen is already a bit scratched from my using the wrist strap thumb thingy for Mario 64 DS. This concerns me. So far there is no impact on the performance or visibility, but it's fairly scuffed. I would not like to have to replace my touch screen once every couple of weeks if it gets to that point. With luck, it won't get to that point and the only effect will be cosmetic.

Three - the power button is too close to something you might actually want to press. When playing Mario 64, I tend to switch from the touch screen to the control pad when I grab onto a pole, and twice so far I've pressed and held the power button rather than up on the control pad. It was very upsetting. I cried and wet my pants. Admittedly, this was my fault, but I wish that the power button were not so close to less dangerous controls, or that it were a switch rather than a button.

Due to my nature, I find it easier to explain things that bug me than the things that I like, so I will just restate that it kicks ass so you're not thrown off by all my bitching. Because it does. Plz.

P.S. Also I can't play GBA games on my SP anymore. I used to think the SP's backlight made the games slightly washed out in blue. But now that I've played my GBA games on the DS, I can say that they were REALLY fucking washed out in blue. The DS is so much clearer I poop my pants every time I turn it on.

Well, don't forget that Hunters should have a single-player mode when it's released, which might give it more kick. Apparently it's great with 4 players (more so than Metroid Prime 2).

I'm surprised about the touch screen scratching... I wonder if the third-party alternative thumb pads will be less prone to it.

Meh, the power button thing has never come up for me. I don't use the thumb pad, it seems pointless... As for the SP thing, I always thought that I couldn't play the SP with the backlit off because without it games had too much of a green hue

I thought the power button had to be held down for a few seconds before it would turn off... Didn't that make it into the final version?

It has to be held down for a fraction of a second. Not long enough for me to realize what I'm doing. Just tapping it won't turn the system off, but it's within the realm of what I'd call "a good push."

...I had heard in the 3-5 second range when people were playing around with pre-release copies. I'm surprised they'd tone it down that much... 3 seconds would be reasonable I think. Long enough so that people can realize that they made a boo-boo.

Oh, and I've YET to see a DS in stores for sale around here. Games, yes. Systems, hah.

...now i'm not sure if I dare using the thumb strap if it scratches the screen.

Anyone knows how much it scratches and what? My Nintendo SP is competly unscratches since I kept so much care about it, but if DS get's scratches more easily becuse of that...

It already does , at least, the demo.

You can replace the DS touch screen?

I was thinking a real single-player mode, not a "bot" mode which I *think* is what's in there at the moment.

The demo has a few training things, some of which have enemies, and I doubt they would've bothered to program in several kinds of enemies for a demo if the full was multiplayer only.

One thing I am worried about, though, is morph ball mode... I know it exists as one of the training things has you in it the whole time, but there seems to be no way to enter it in the others plus all the buttons are in use anyway, so I wonder how they'll handle it...

Well, there we go. Basically little demo levels and that.

Maybe there'll be automatic morph ball activation? If it's more action-based than puzzle-based...

Yeh, I was thinking that could be possible, but, rolling around in the morph ball mode is fun and you go faster that way. There's no intuitive way to implement it, unlike jumping in 3d zeldas. My expectations are not high, I must say. The Metroid Primes for gamecube were nice but this is looking way too action-based =/

I think that's only because we haven't seen anything really, from the single player, so action based is what it is right now.

I'm sure it'll be a good game, if it has a story .

My buddy completed SM64DS within a weekend all 150 or so stars...Gone.

So I erased his file to piss him off as retaliation for erasing my perfect Pokemon Yellow cart three years ago. My Slowbro was INVINCIBLE

Haha, revange. xD

But he honestly would wind up deleting that savefile himself, to start over with the collecting. I always find Mario64 boring as when I finished all stars since I have no pressure...

It has all of those minigames though, good stuff.

I'm reallys surprised they didn't have any majorly good games at the release of the DS. (cept SM64)
