I'd be inclined to agree... The best offering was Clayfighter 63 1/3? Well known to be one of the most awful games ever

Holy crap, I totally forgot about the Clayfighter games... That was a pretty fun fighter game, and it definitely kept me interesting for a while. In fact, I'm thinking that maybe I should add it to my collection. Man, I can't believe that. Oh well, at least Nintendo 64 had more than one good fighter though. |

Clay Fighters on the SNES I didn't really get into as much as I pounded life from Killer Instinct. Killer Instinct is just...damn...it's just such a great game but can get as cheap/wild as a lot of fighters out in that generation. And the graphics for that age on the SNES were pretty decent too. That...and in terms of arcades...it was probably one of the first games to have a hard drive running off it. The hard drive itself is around 500 megs for KI and KI2. |

Killer Instinct seems to have been forgotten in the realm of the digitised games... Mortal Kombat was just so successful that people ignored Killer Instinct, and they still do today... Shame, an update could be really good if they did it properly. |

Yeah, but the chances of Rare doing things properly is pretty much nil these days. Indeed, Clayfighter on the 64 was apparently *awful*. Despite the cameo if Earthworm Jim (then again, the creator's of Jim's first two games had no involvement in his later appearances, I believe, hence their suckiness). On the subject of Ryu and Ken's cheapness... Yes. There are ways to get around it, at least with fast fighters like Chun Li, but the fact that Dragon Punches are practically impossible to break through... Thank goodness for air blocking in newer fighters. |

Mortal Kombat sucks... no honestly it does. I never liked that Fighting game. I swear, you had to play tons in the training mode to learn combos to make a simple punch or something... at least that made me annoyed. Then I never got enough time to play the game, it was my friends. However, Killer Instinct is better. Even as a complete newbie I had more fun with that than Mortal Kombat... Man, and I forgotten about KI2 for the N64 as well. Geez, alright maybe I should think before I go claiming things like "N64 only had like one fighter that was great. The rest sucked!" I remember that the N64 Mortal Kombat wasn't bad either, but oh well...

KI2 Gold certainly needs special mention for Maya. Never played it though... (edited by Fyxe on 01-16-05 05:24 PM) |

I only played KI2 in the arcade and that was once...I could easily get it running on here but I don't have the peripherals necessary for it to run at even 100% rate at the highest frameskip.

I remember having lots of fun with MK2 on multiplayer. Have some played World Heroes 2?? Now, that's the game. |

World Heroes and World Heroes 2 isn't bad, but it's not that great either, and it's got one heck of a CPU learning curve too. Definitely not for those that don't want to get owned the first couple times they play.

I loved WH2 because of the unlimited level. You can play forever against a very good oponent, but I never found one worth fighting (And I haven't tryed online). |

Part of the problem with KI was that it was initially supposed to be the big killer launch app for the N64. Then, as the 64 got delayed again and again, the game came out on the SNES (And even the GAME BOY), and everyone kind of forgot about it.

I didn't like KI, too realistic, I like Cartoon like sprites.

I've never played KI, actually. I suppose I should try it sometime, but, I don't particularly like traditional fighters (with the exception of GWED and MvC.) (edited by Kyouji Craw on 01-16-05 07:37 PM) |

Not really a traditional fighter. This pretty much paved the way to high-hitter combos in fighters. I doubt I saw many fighter games back in the day where the characters were doing 48-hit combos. That's what you'd get out of KI...if you could stand to press...oh...lesse... If the character is Orchid and the person's about to die...lesse if I can name this right...after getting a combo breaker: Ch. Back --> Forward + A (only first hit) (1)--> L + Ch. Back (4) --> Forward + A (7) --> L + Ch. Back (10) --> Foward + A (13) --> L + Ch. Back (16) --> Forward + A (19) --> L (22) --> Back + B (24) --> L + Ch. Back (27) --> Forward + Y (Ultra movement)(45) --> Jump Back+Up, Forward, Back+B, Down-Forward + R (48). That simple. |

...Errr, I don't know. I've played Killer Instinct, and I didn't get much comboage from it. I guess I'm pretty clutzy with the controller. The best I have done is scheme up a 11-hit combo with Jago and... I can't exactly remember right now, but I think it was Y, Y, Forward-to-back Y, Forward-to-back Y, B, Forward-Down-Forward Y. I don't think that's it, but it's mostly involving Jago's saber.

World Heroes 2 + Death Match mode = really nice 2-player fun. I thought the original Clay Fighter was pretty good, but the series went downhill from there. |

Originally posted by Tamias Most that's going to do is two hits. Not quite a combo there. :\ Most I've got from Jago is 30, 18 outside of Ultra. You can't do much with him and he's hard to use. The only thing he has going for him is his wind kick but it's an easy dodge with the back button. Your best bet is to move in close and do some low-hit combos with two hits of the Y key followed by dragon punch Y. Easy 5-hit. Can also chain to 8 if you know the end linker. Only problem is that it's all close range so you have to keep your reactions up. Orchid or Combo in that game... <3 |
