Doesn't ExAnimation use its own GFX slot? You can also assign the animations to any tile number... so you could replace a few tiles you don't use (Such as the transparent block, for one example I've used in my old hack)

He would still have to delete the background (edited by UnsurpassedDarkness on 12-08-04 08:38 PM) |

using layer 3 would screw with the status bar. Well he wouldn't really HAVE to, but if he wants it to look good it'd have to cover everything, including the slopes and such, right? So he can't just have the animated tile every area where there's not already a tile, because that'd look like crap. It takes a lot of animated tiles to make snow look right. It'd have to be repeated for every tile that doesn't end evenly (IE all of them). In short, there's way too many tiles in this set to allow for animation on layer 1. |

Making the bottom part of the house not solid will not work, trust me on this. In fact, I'll whip up a screenshot so you can see why. Notice the missing legs. |

Well... try making an outline for the bottom like this: *poor ASCII art* BBBBBBBB WWBBWWBB That would be the top two pixels of the 8x8 tiles. B means Black (Outline) and W means the snow (which is white...). Confused? When you make the snow have the lumps, make the lumps round and make the rest of the tiles black. That could be useful... or it would look ugly... up to you on what you do... |

actually i was thinking erase the house part form the snow!? and change the snow gfx around the house so that it looks like its sticking to the sides of the house and have mario in front of the house\snow gfx but have a diferent top to the snow in which it goes with the normal background without the hosue and mario is behind it..

The Cabin would look terrible if the ground was smooth in front of it. The way it is now works the best out of all the options I have. It is possible, using Layer 2, to make a more believable house, but I'm not willing to sacrifice the background for such a trivial concern. Not that someone else can't do it with the set, it's easy to do. EDIT: When I say trivial, I'm referring to gameplay. It would serve no real gameplay purpose to let the player walk there, unless you made the door enterable. Which I'm not going to do because I don't even have plans to make an interior cabin set (at least for now). Certainly the graphics might feel somewhat more natural, but I've been designing sets for years now. I would hope I know what I'm doing. (edited by Juggling Joker on 12-09-04 12:01 AM) |

To me, it seems the only option is to flatten the tops of the snow. There might be another way, and if there is, I'd be glad to learn it, but this is the only way around it that I know of. BTW, how did you make the snow waist-level to Mario? |

I tried flat snow, it looked like junk. Believe me, I have tried all options, as it is now is the best way. And like I said, what real reason besides using the door would you want the player to walk there? You can't put any other objects on the cabin face that the player could interact with (like coins or question blocks) without even more hassle. This is the best way, trust me.

You could make it look like someone went and shoveled the snow... speaking of which... If that extra space is in the set still... you could add a shovel |

I would just stick with having no snow. If anyone wants snow, they could make it themselves... it isn't that hard. Just a bunch of circles falling... Well, if you tried, you tried. Nobody needs to keep complaining about no snow... it is fine the way it is. It looks as if the levels take place on a mountain. Speaking of which... that just gave me an idea... for a level, that is... |

and im sure you could do the same with an icicle rope to hang on or somthing of that sort. Though the problem is youd need a little asm hack to make it go fast compared to a slow sled :-P
